Download all songs to phone

I'm definitely in the boat that hates Apple Music. Hate. I so greatly regret stopping Spotify and moving to AM. But now I've let AM do its thing and unfortunately when that process started it deleted ALL my playlists from my computer so I had to recreate them with AM content etc etc. Long story short, I've not invested in AM and am trying to make the best out of Apple's second biggest mistake.

The problem is:
1. I have 30gb of music that it has technically put into the cloud. The problem is, now do I have to "download" it all from the internet to my phone? Downloading from the cloud to my phone will take forever (plus use my limited bandwidth). Is there a way to transfer the songs stored locally on my computer to my phone via iTunes and lightning cable?

2. There are some songs, recently, that "looks like this is no longer available". It stops the download of ALL songs in that playlist when I try and make available offline, until I discover which song it is. I have, and I have that song locally on my computer. How do I get it onto my phone? WTF Apple, just because YOU don't have it doesn't mean I do not!?

I have many other problems but based on other threads it seems those haven't been addressed, such as sort playlist by name.

I too am waiting for the ability to sort playlists, especially smart playlists, on iOS devices. I like creating "albums released in 2015" smart playlists and the songs are all just random in the playlist on iOS even when manually sorting them to my liking on iTunes then restarting Apple Music on iOS.

As far as answers to your questions:

1. You can turn iCloud Library off and sync your DRM-Free files to your iOS devices manually through iTunes, but that will hide your Apple Music files, they can only be synced when cloud music is on. What you can "try" is turning cloud music/match off in iTunes and your phone, syncing all 30gb of music, then turning the service back on and "Merge" collection on your phone, I've seen that as an option before...should work!

2. I too experienced this phenomenon. Example: Bombay Bicycle Club's latest release "So Long, See You Tomorrow" was available in Apple Music when I "built my Cloud library," but has since been pulled from Apple Music due to licensing restrictions (my guess). So now I no longer have that album in my collection, I can still see it, but it is grayed out because I didn't save it for offline playback. This is somewhat aggravating because even though I know I'm leasing the content, it still will never be mine forever as long as I lease it, licensing can yank anything from YOUR collection at any time!

Problem is, when I started this entire disaster, apple didnt recognize a lot of my songs, so I deleted my local version and used theirs. Big mistake. Now if I turn off the library I don't have those songs, but there were at least 20 and I don't remember which ones...till the moment I'm out somewhere and decide I want to listen to it. I don't use my data to stream music, I have a limited amount.

So you have the song in your library, but it isn't showing up on the phone with iCloud on? That sounds like an iTunes Match issue, do you subscribe to Match?

EDIT (sorry for all the edits): One thing to consider, remove your actual file out of iTunes, delete it from any cloud association, then add it back into your iTunes collection. Even without subscribing to iTunes Match, if Apple Music doesn't have the song, it should still upload your file to the cloud for downloading on the phone.


I feel your pain. I experienced the same issue. Forced me to move my Apple Music subscription to an entirely different iTunes account. I had to log out on my iOS devices and my MacBook Pro. I then created a whole new music collection from scratch using the new iTunes account on my phone and iPad. This let me keep my iTunes music I actually owned on an iMac completely independent of anything I do on Apple Music. Sucks, but Apple wasn't too forthright with exactly how Apple Music would integrate into our music. They've screwed many people with this Beta!

This is like Apple Maps, every now and then I think "maybe I'll give it a try, things may have improved" and there's always the occasion where it takes me so far off course that I don't use it again for months. I'm having that same feeling with AM, the only difference being I can't just quickly flick back to spotify the way I do with Google maps.

All shouldn't be lost with Spotify, right? If you just stopped your subscription then all your music and playlists should still be there when/if you went back. Just turn off auto-renew on AM and jump ship back to the Spotify train

Lol tried that. Spotify isn't recognizing the playlists I had to recreate after AM deleted my old ones. All my songs are probably still there. I don't think there's a way to copy the new playlists I made over to spotify right?

Ohhh, gotcha, you accessed your iTunes library through Spotify. I previously subscribed to Spotify and had built my own library using them, not my iTunes.
