So we have bandwidth issues at the office, I need to be able to download an installer for Catalina from my Mac at home, and then bring that in on a flash drive to install on my office mac pro. Is this possible? I can't seem to find a way to download the installer, it always wants me to just "upgrade"

Additionally I need to do this for the new version of Final Cut Pro, but having the same issue.

Don't they make installers that you can just download and save anymore?

I did some googling, and found some sites claiming to have installers you can download, but they seemed kind of questionable.. I'd prefer to download them direct from Apple, not some other site.

If you click on "upgrade", the computer will download the full Catalina installer to your Applications folder.

Do this at home:

1. Go to software update and choose to download Catalina.

2. At the end up the download, the OS installer will open. However...

3. DO NOT choose to install. Instead, go to the file menu and choose "quit". That kills the installer.

4. The installer app is in your Applications folder (very large, about 7gb). Just copy this to an EXTERNAL DRIVE of some sort. You can delete it from your applications folder, if you wish.

5. Take the installer and copy it into the applications folder of the Mac you wish to upgrade. Then launch it. See if that works.

Does anyone happen to know if the same thing will work for Final Cut Pro? Can I start the update, and then cancel the installer, and then the updater will be in my applications folder? Or could I download the free trial of final cut, but then it would update the full version if I try to put it on a system that already has it installed?

No, apps from the App Store don't work that way. You can copy Final Cut from one of your computers to another, though.
