Hey all,

This seems like it should be extremely simple, yet I can't find out how to do it. I'm trying to change either my Safari or Chrome download location to be set to an external SSD that I have plugged into my iPad Pro 4th Gen. The drive shows up in the Files app. I have found how to set the download location for Safari, but I don't see the drive as an option. I can't even figure out how to change the download location for Chrome.

Thanks,
Dan

Yeah, looks like you can't do that in either browser.

I get why this is not doable from an Apple design choice, it's mobile devices and generally not connected to external drives, but it is inconsistent with MacOS in that you can specify external Downloads folder (why are laptops ok for this?).

Chrome seems to save to their sandbox. Need to use Share Sheet to put elsewhere. Firefox does save to "On My/Firefox", but no option to change default save location.

It’s prolly one of many still existing arbitrary limitations apple put on iPadOS in their ongoing desperation move to not merge iPad into MacBook and macOS while also offer “laptop-like” experience as close as possible.

Complicating seemingly simple tasks that can be done on a laptop is, ironically, a specialty for iPadOS despite Apple’s claim. For example, stage manager does not allow users to overlay a window over full screen only apps anymore, which is a strict downgrade from slideover.
