Every time I try to install the beta profile (beta.apple.com/profile), I end up with a "your session has timed out" message after I decline upgrading to 2-factor authentication. I'm very reluctant to move to 2FA because the one time I tried to do it, Apple sent the verification code to the very device I was trying to activate and it was a complete cluster.

Has anyone been able to install the iOS 14 Beta without 2FA?

You can have 2FA turned on with only having 1 Apple device. You can use another trusted device such as a landline.

I don’t think you can install iOS 14 on your account without it.

it would be bad news if your account got hacked because you didn’t have 2FA turned on.

2FA has been required since iOS 11. As the previous post mentioned, it can be implemented with a single devicel

It's certainly something that has been prompted and recommended, but doesn't seem like it has actually been required, at least not in all situations.

On older accounts that don’t have it turned on, it isn’t mandatory. It is mandatory for all newer accounts. And once 2FA is turned on, it cannot be turned off.

It is not required to activate 2FA before installing iOS 14. iOS will prompt you to upgrade but you can still dismiss. I do agree that account registration time may be the determine factor here. Mine was registered long before 2SV was even a thing.
