Say im using my ipad 3g (when i get it in the mail for god's sake). if i want to download an app is there still going to be the same 20Mb limit? That would suckk knowing that made-for-ipad games are larger files than iphone
example- iphone version of flight control- 7.4Mb
ipad version of flight control- 17.3Mb

these dont excede the limit but u know what i mean...

thanks :apple:

The answer is very likely yes, the same rules apply. Has nothing to do with the fact that it's an iPad . The 20MB limit over 3G has a lot to do with keeping AT&T's bandwidth use within reason.

Yes, I expect there to be a limit. I wonder if the limit would be larger though, to make allowance for the larger apps. Probably not.

They claim there to be no limit, so it would be pretty lame of them to go back on their word.

...not referring to TOTAL limit for each month, but the size limit for each item, like a song or an app.

The limit for each item on the iPhone is now 20MB.

Well they did increase the cap from 10 to 20 MB just prior to the iPad release. Your flight control is the perfect example of why this change was needed.

Any iPad 3G users who tried this?

I'm still awaiting the arrival of mine at work, so I'm not going to sync it to my work PC. But I would like to load it up with stuff before I get home and a lot of the apps and games I'm gonna grab is over 20MB.

Just curious - can you name some over 20mb?

Will have to check ELEMENTS and MLB.

That new TomTom GPS navigation app is 1.41 gig from what I saw on the AppStore. So I'd be curious. If there IS a 20 meg limit, then I would wish I had known this before ordering one... I would have kept the WiFi instead. AT&T just plain sucks if they can't handle that.

While I agree I wish they upped it even more its not like this is any different then any iPhone OS device. 10 MB has been the limit for years. I'm just thankful that they upped it to 20 MB recently.

Pretty simple, really. If you want an app, buy it on your computer and sync your iPad or find a free WiFi hotspot and do it that way. I think it would be pretty rare that I'd need to download a large app on the fly. I'm not going to be driving around town and suddenly need a big game.

Just prepare before hand and make sure you have the apps you think you'll use. Or just spring for the $30 plan. I mean, you did just spend an extra $130 for 3G over WiFi only.

The single download limit is regardless of which 3G data plan you're on.

Right, but you can still download it via Wifi. As I understand it, there is no download limit over Wifi.

Yeah that's right, I was replying to the last part of the post:

Just received my iPad 3G.

CONFIRMED: I am NOT able to download an app over 20MB over 3G. Same restriction applies to iPad 3G.
