I worked hard in my free time to complete my first app and would be thrilled if you guys would check it out and tell me what you think.
instaBAC is a real-time blood alcohol content calculator. There are dozens of other BAC calculators in the app store, but they are generally ugly, not easy to use, and require you to manually update to get a current reading. instaBAC automatically updates itself and you can simply tap twice to add a finished to drink. instaBAC will also inform you when you have reached the coveted "pleasure zone," the range of BAC in which researchers have found maximizes the positive effects of alcohol and minimizes the negative effects. You can also get up to the minute stats on your drinking session such as time until sober and your drinks per hour rate.

Just downloaded and was messing around with it (while sober).

Very clean design, easy to use, interesting features (drink/hour, time to sober), etc.

Just a question/observation/pondering regarding the alcohol level. Although you're touting it as real time alcohol level, it isn't really... I understand that you're supposed to tap to indicate a finished drink, but it then automatically updates your BAC when in reality, it can take 30-60 minutes for it to be absorbed, depending on stomach content and other factors. If I slammed three shots of tequila and had my blood drawn immediately, my BAC would be 0.00%. It wouldn't be 0.05 or so until some time later as it absorbs.

If there was a way for the "tap when finished" would trigger a gradual increase of the BAC (while leaving the time to sober intact) over 45 minutes, it would be a more "real time" tracking of what a person's BAC is. For that matter, the tap to indicate a drink could be at the beginning of the drink, assuming they're going to finish the whole thing (your app goes in whole drink increments anyway) in a reasonable amount of time.

I'm certainly not knocking the app - it's a good one - just offering my 2 cents.

Thanks for the response Abe, I appreciate the feedback.

That's an interesting point and I have thought about it. I think there is definitely a lot of potential to move into a more detailed oriented way to get a more accurate and up to date reading that can factor in things like taking shots and beers of different alcohol levels. I ultimately decided for now to keep things simple and normalize everything, but it might be a good idea in the future to have a more complicated app that has different behaviors for what type of drink you are having.

Again, appreciate the response and will definitely think on how to incorporate more fine tuning on the BAC calculation.

Great idea and great looking app from the screenies!

Do you have a big disclaimer on it? I saw something similar once on Shark Tank and they wouldn't touch it because they didn't want to be liable if someone relied on the app and got arrested or hurt somebody and sued because it wasn't accurate.

People are pretty stupid and litigious so be sure to protect yourself in that regard.

Yes there is a disclaimer about how the app is only an estimate and shouldn't be used as a guideline to determine when it is safe to drive.
