Download this: Battery Go...enable battery percentage with no jailbreak

Awesome. Now everyone can watch their battery % fall like a rock, and complain because "oh noes! mah batry is dieing! aple beter re re my phone!11!1!11eleven!!1!"

I think its a pointless feature in the 3Gs. If you need it, yes, this works. But thats the thing, you probably dont need it and it will drive you mad. Its just brings the OCD out in everyone.

Good post for everyone that needs it though. Take my sarcasm as you will.

I think your response is fairly displaced.
The battery % indicator is far better not to bring you to a paranoid state but to let you know approximately how much battery life you have left. Rather than interpreting the graphical representation and thinking that 50% is when the battery is half green (which would be reasonable but it is highly unlikely), this at least gives you a better picture.
If it isn't for you then fine, but don't crap on the myriad of people who would love this but yet have no need to go to the 3GS just to get a feature that should have been in the 3.0 software in the first place.

itunes2000 are you the developer?

My only gripe is that I would just like this in the menu bar. There are other apps that show me % but nothing in the menu bar as far as I know.

Fine. In my personal opinion, the battery percentage brings out the worst in people's OCD tendencies.

I did admit that this was in fact a good find for people that needed it. I think it should be with the 3G as well as the 3Gs, but naturally, it is now. I didn't crap on anyone. I'm sick of hearing about people's percentages and adding the 3G crowd to it will only make it worse. But ok. Whatever. Glad people will find this app useful.
 
the title of your thread is misleading...

does this actually enable the battery percentage on 3G like
the one that is featured on the 3GS, or are you just telling
us of a program that helps you monitor battery life?
 
I've lurked these forums for a long time, but never actually registered. I figured now would be as good of time as any haha, here's why...

Battery Go! is developed by my team haha and seeing someone mention it here is pretty much one of the sweetest moments of my life. Hope you guys get a chance to check it out and enjoy it.

To clarify some questions, our application just monitors your current battery percentage and then gives you a read out of how much talk/video/internet/music time you approximately have remaining on your charge. We also give you a little slider bar so you can play around and see what hypothetical times you should be getting if you so happened to watch an hour movie or something. If you click the "i" button, you're given some useful battery tips. It's fairly simple, but something we think any iPhone or iPod Touch user could use, even if you have a 3GS and still get to see your percentage.

If you guys have any other questions, I'll try to answer them as well.

hi! i have a question...

as a developer, do you have any insight or idea as to whether apple would ever allow a 3rd party app like hours to toggle the battery percentage indicator?
 
There are many free battery apps out there. Why pay 99¢ just to have it tell you estimated time remaining? You can typical guess how much time you have left on your own anyway.

I don't mean to be offensive, but these comments are so unhelpful and I, at least, grow pretty tired of them. It has some neat features not available in any other app (that I know of). If you don't want to pay for it, don't. I mean, I am not planning on it, but if someone finds it useful, there is absolutely no need for us to come here and try to undermine someone's efforts. If you want to estimate—estimate. Just seams really unkind.

Yeah, I don't ever see that happening to be honest with you. I'm not from Apple though, so don't quote me on it. However, they don't let us touch anything but what you would see in an application, so I don't see that working out.

I think we kinda help out because we show you pretty good estimates for battery time in hours:minutes left. We also show percenage, which is impossible to do without an app like ours on any device before the 3GS, so I would definitely say that there is a market for what we do.

Just seems like a bit of a waste to me. I know I unplugged my phone at 9:00am this morning. I also know I have 70% battery left. That means I used 30% in 8 hours, so I'll have plenty of battery left to get me to when I plug it in at night around 1:00am. I really don't see the need to have an app that GUESSES how much battery life is left in terms of hours and minutes, I can do that on my own.

As far as displaying battery percentage 'being impossible to do without an app like yours', http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=319724829&mt=8 does it very simply for free. From the battery remaining you the user can guess (much like your app does) how much battery life they have left. It take 3 lines of code to determine and show how much battery life is left. Then some simple math from Apples battery tests to show how much battery life is left, certainly not revolutionary.

The old saying our mother's taught us... "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." Especially when no one was asking for your opinion. Something to keep in mind, especially being a developer as you are. ;)

If there is a free alternative to one of my apps, then I need to make sure that paying for my app has its value over the free version(s.) I think that should go for all developers, and I didn't feel that this app did that.

Just some friendly advice, and the last I'll say here. You have a company to think of. Is coming on a forum and voicing your negative opinions and bashing the work of someone else really smart? It can certainly cause others to look at your company in a negative light, as it certainly did here. But hey, I'm just one guy, right? :)

You are 100% right. Public image is everything. Jeremy, just by your posts in this thread, I vow to never buy anything that comes out of 1026 Development. I don't know who you are to come and bash another developer like that.

Dude, thanks so very much man. It's something we've been real excited about for a couple months now. I'm just glad the world is finally getting to see it, and they seem to be liking it which is real nice too.
