Download times + Lion

So the download for Lion is about 4 Gigs and I was reading last night that for someone on DSL it would possible take about 7 hours to download Lion. Now the bad news for dial up users, the article said about 7 days to download. That seems like a very long time. I don't have DSL or cable internet in my area, but I do have a mobile broadband modem. Now I know that the mobile broadband is slower than DSL and cable but it's still a lot faster than dial up. Maybe my download might only take 3 days......
I hope those times that I read for the download are wrong or somewhat off. My thinking is that maybe Apple will relent and still offer Lion on DVD at the last minute. That would be a good thing. 

We will see, but I can tell you as someone who had to move from cable to DSL it did not take 7 hours to download.

I have ADSL2+ i sync about 12mb and 4gb takes about 1 hour.

With most basic DSL speeds 5Mb/s the average time should be about 1hr 46 min.

that's only if apple's server can serve it that fast. i get a theoretical 20 Mb/s with my internet but i've only ever seen 1.5 Mb/s in a download.

At that rate it would take 5 hours. I'm not sure I've ever looked , but I had to be getting more than 1.5 because mine finish in less than 2 hours.
Of course this depends on Apple's servers or whatever CDN service they use.

I don't think anyone who has the money to buy a Mac doesn't have the money to afford an internet connection that is faster than dial up. I first got the internet in 2002 and even THEN almost no one used dial up anymore! I've never used it myself!

7 hours is a lot but it's acceptable. It's better than going to the Apple store only to find out that they're out of stock of install DVDs, and have to go back every day for a week to actually get one.

Start downloading when you go to sleep and it's done when you wake up!

7 hours? I am on 8MB DSL broadband although at peak performance I get about 5 MB down and to download a 4GB file would take probably about 2 hours maybe 2 and a half.

Are you sure you're not confusing Mbit and MByte? I have 20Mbit/s theoretical and get about 1.2MByte/s in real life (real speed depends on a number of factors and is between 10Mbit=1.2MByte and 20Mbit=2.5MByte per second).
Now downloading lion at my speed would take around 55Minutes, and at your speed (if you are talking about MByte that is) would take about 45 minutes.

But with dial up, it would take 6 days and 14 hours minimum (so take 7 days indeed).

I'm with Plusnet on an 8 meg connection with 80GB usage allowance, so to me, 4GB size is neither here nor there.

In my house I'm located upstairs and am connected via ethernet to an AEBS, which is in turn connected via Powerline ethernet through to the main router which is downstairs.

Just wondering how long it might take me to download? I gather that this is a sturdier more reliable connection than Wi-Fi would be.

I did download Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 from the MAS recently - a 3.2gb(ish) game. That took about an hour and a half IIRC...

Speed is always a hit & miss thing. Several factors apply. So you can never really get an exact time.Go to speediest.net and figure your average with some readings. Then convert.
