downloaded TV shows

If i have downloaded a bunch of tv shows, not through itunes though, can i just throw them into itunes and put onto ipad? Is there something else i would need to do? programs?

If they adhere to the specifications Apple listed, yes.

If not, you need them to convert them to that format via Handbrake or MPEG Streamclip.

.mov or .mp4 as format, H264 as codec, as stated by the technical specifications by Apple.

I have just finished converting a load of old camcorder to DVD films and found Handbrake easy enough to use. Luckily one of those App bundle items that I never saw the point in and never got around to installing!
