This should be self evident, but I"d appreciate advice.

I'd like to D/L a few apps as I find ones I want to try out. Do they end up on my desktop if I D/L them before upgrading to the 3G or 2.0 on my old phone? Or, does iTunes hold them until I connect a phone with 2.0 installed on it and then apply them (the apps) the phone automatically??

Thank you!

The applications end up in a file labeled apllications in itunes. itunes does hold them until you connect an iphone or ipod touch with 2.0, they just sit unused until there is something that is capable of using the apps connected. Yes it does apply them automatically when an updated iphone is connected.

Yes it does apply them automatically when an updated iphone is connected.

Also worth noting that, like songs, you can set it to sync only some programs if you don't want them all.

Thus, imagine an iTunes program that has 20 apps downloaded into it. You could set YOUR phone to sync with 10 of those and your wife could sync HER phone to sync with the other 10. They'd all live in iTunes, but that doesn't mean you have to put all of them on the phone if you don't want to.
