Sorry if this question has been answered before but i've been searching for so long and got nothing...

My country is supposed to get the iphone in the next couple of months...if i get a jailbroken iphone now, will it be possible to register, download and sync apps from the itunes store when it becomes available here? or will it brick the phone?

Also does cydia have the same apps as the itunes store, or similar at least?

And if an update changes the baseband does the phone have to be jailbroken all over again?

thanks so much in advance....:)

Of course you can download and sync and do all the same things as you could do before jailbreaking your iphone :)

You can't brick your iphone by jailbreaking, as you can fix any problems by restoring the phone to it's factory virgin state.

You'll also have access to Appshare, where you can download free cracked apps that you normally have to pay for on the app store

No the baseband being flashed by firmware 2.2 just means you can't unlock the iphone in the future, unlocking = using any simcard you like

Jailbreaking gives you access to the iphones root directories so you can modify themes, apps etc.

Yes Cydia has most if not all the same apps from the apple store, the only difference is they are free with Cydia but not with Apple :)

If you are worried about not being able to unlock your iphone 3G in the near future , I would start with the pwnage tool, but if this doesn't bother you I would go for the easy Quickpwn tool

Keep reading this forum as I was new to this too a few days ago but I have learned so much from spending time here.

You will be able to download apps from both cydia and the official apps store. Jailbreaking doesn't interfere with this ability. The whole point of cydia is to have apps that apple won't allow you to have on the phone, there are a lot of apps that greatly improve the functionality of the phone. If you periodically check here you can see updated news on jailbreaking new firmwares. Currently all iphone firmwares are susceptible to the dev team's method of "pwning" (another word for jailbreaking) and yes every time apple releases a new firmware you have to jailbreak the phone over again. :D

Long story short, Cydia and App Store can coexist. You can download App Store apps even though you are in an unsupported country (as long as you have an iTunes account).

Bricking the iPhone is not possible unless you mess with the baseband processor or the baseband software (radio of the phone).

If you update your phone, your unsupported Apps will be gone, but they can return always.

Thank you very much for your help...So i guess i can just buy a locked phone then use the turbosim or just buy it from countries where its already sold unlocked...then i can jailbreak it with firmware 2.2 and baseband 1.45 and wait till the new baseband is possible to unlock (jailbreak)...does that sound right?

Here is the video tutorial on how to jailbreak using Quickpwn 2.2

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gv1cF_3S4G8

And here are the files from the video (The Quickpwn dmg file and IPSW)

http://www.iphonefire.net/?page_id=11

Just scroll down the list and choose the correct files, the video tutorial is the one I used and I found it to be very helpful.

Hope this helps.

Oh and I agree with the OP too, check out the forum and familiarize yourself with the whole process of jailbreaking as it's a good idea to know what to do when things go wrong and how it works (up to a point)
