downloading in browser?

Is there a way to download things in ipad's safari? there's a site i use a lot that puts up regular new mp3's, and it'd be great if it was possible to download and have it auto-import into the ipod app or something.

by comparison, on my motorola droid, i can just use a file management app to manually enable downloads and then just drop it into my music folder when i'm done.

I have a feeling 4.0 will allow this on a limited basis, ie mp3 to ipod or other apps assigned, pdf, etc. It won't allow all files.

Goodreader will let you download the .mp3 file from the web and play it or send it to other apps, or back to another computer using its file management. It won't send it directly into iTunes or the iPod app though.

I'm sorry to hear about your impulse buy, but this OS has been out for nearly 4 years and Safari has never been able to download file of the web.

And good luck being able to do this in OS 4.0. We have already seen the previews and betas, why would this just come out of nowhere.

There's hints of it in the iTunes beta where you can manage fills assigned to certain apps, like mail etc. Also current ipad os allows assigning applications to certain file types, ie goodreader can open and save attachments directly from mail. I'm sure they will extend this to the web. In theory

man, you're a snarky troll. way to also assume that i already bought the thing, or if i did, this was somehow my sole need and therefore i must've made an entirely stupid purchasing decision.

if goodreader plays the file, what the heck does it play it with? is there some kind of built-in mp3 playing functionality that's not the ipod app?

A lot of people think you have to actually browse with GoodReader in order to download files. You can use Safari, as long as you had GoodReader installed on the iPad. Simply browse like usual and find the file, any file. Jpg, avi, PDF whatever. In safari, enter a "g" then the URL of the file. For example, ghttp://randomfile.avi

GoodReader will then download the file. So Safari doesn't do the downloading, but you don't need to browse with another app.
