I was thinking of downloading this for windows and would was wondering if I could port it over to the mac if/when they are ported. It doesn't say steam play so maybe not...
Also, Do I download the game again if I do buy a game that's on windows and ported to mac. I will have to download that to mac before I can play, right?
Thanks again for your posts, you seem knowledgeable on the subject.

You know I kept saying make sure to buy from steam, but obviously Left 4 Dead, as with all Valve games require steam so yeah you're fine on buying Left 4 Dead 2 ANYWHERE, retail or digital since they activate on steam. And the games that are steam play will play on either OS. I think L4D1 is the only major game from valve not on Mac OSX yet.
As for downloading/installing the game twice, yes for the most part you will have to do it twice, BUT for these valve games, I was able to copy most windows files over to the place where they should be on OSX since the file structure is the same for steam. for example I was able to do this for L4D2 just today, I already had it on bootcamp, copied over the files onto my OSX partition after allowing steam to create the initial folder setup and bam saved 7GB of downloading =)
sorry for another long post, just trying to explain help out as much as possible.
I'm really surprised you copying over the files over to the Mac actually worked. I woulda thought that the Mac side of things required Mac files. Kudos for good work.

Unless you live in Australia, in which case make sure you buy L4D2 on Steam, after setting your location to the USA, otherwise you will end up with the censored version.
What do they censor?
Blood, bodies, fire ... all the things that define the zombie genre basically.
On September 15, 2009, Left 4 Dead 2 was refused classification by the OFLC[23][24] with the reason being "The game contains realistic, frenetic and unrelenting violence which is inflicted upon "the Infected" who are living humans infected with a rabies-like virus that causes them to act violently". The game was edited and released with an MA15+ classification two months later. This was due to the games creators and an online petition that began circulating shortly after the public became aware of the game being banned.
