Ok I signed up for the Apple Developer Program so I can down load the new 4.0 beta version, do I have to pay to install it on my Iphone ? Meanwhile I have the iphone sdk downloading in the background, what do I do next ?

If you haven't paid for anything, you don't have access to 4.0. You need to sign up and pay $99.
 
If you are a registered developer, you should be able to just install iPhone OS 4 on your device.

Yep, with the paid subscription you get both the SDK (all previous as well as the 3.2.3 SDK) as well as the 4.0 OS files (seperate downloads) and the OS files are a restore bundle. Basic restore of iPhone...

Yep, you only get access to the 3.2.2 SDK (no special OS just the SDK and development tools)
 
Eek, I hope he's downloading the right one. It's a big download to get wrong.
 
I think I just downloaded it free it never asked for a credit card for the $99.00
it gave me two dowloads but I did not open them yet I just wanted the beta version and not looking to develop any apps.
