Downloads Folder

Totally new to Mac OS and only received my 1st MBA today.

When i download a file and i install it can i then delete it from the downloads folder? I've notice a message pop up saying it can't because the file is in use even if the file isn't???

After you transfer the application from the .dmg to the Applications folder, you need to eject the disk image the application came on before deleting it from the trash.
