So I got a external HD up and running for windows on bootcamp, installed Steam( for games life half life 2), and am downloading the game files directly onto my external which is where steam is installed.

Its downloading really slow( like 45 kbs for three games being downloaded at once(15kbs each)). The day before I was downloading steam files onto my internal with speads in the 400kbs( my cable goes from 400-600 kbs max). Whats the deal?

BTW, its a firewire drive( 160 gig ).

Hmm, there's really no reason downloads to your external should be slower.

I would suggest trying a friends internet connection and see if that made a difference. Maybe something is wrong with yours?

You could also try downloading something in OS X to see if the speed is still as high as it once was (indicating there's a problem) or if it dropped too (indicating it's your internet connection).

okay, first of all its def. not the connection( ive been downloading at ~450 kbs onto my internal just now). So I tried downloading something else besides stuff on Steam to my external, it it was going FAST at 400kbs. SO it has to be steam?

Do you think steam is poorly coded or somthing for downloads to externals( haha i have no idea). Thanks
