I just updated my Macbook Pro to Sonoma. When I download a pdf from any website using Brave browser, the file gets stuck somewhere. The download occurs, and the file can be opened in preview using spotlight or from the Brave download manager. BUT, the file does not show up on the desktop, does not appear in any folder, and cannot be moved to any folder.

I spent over an hour of the phone will Apple tech support. Of course it was a waste of time, they blamed Brave, and told me to use Safari. I will never use Safari. How can this be fixed?

No issues here downloading to Desktop (which is syncing with iCloud), various file type and sizes.

I have an M2 MBP. Do you perhaps have an Intel version of Mac?
And you upgraded to Sonoma? (This started immediately after the Sonoma upgrade.)
Also, the issue only seems to be with the Brave browser. Are you using another browser?

hmm, dunno about that as I download to a local download folder and it works perfect
Are you sure the folder you download to syncs to iCloud?

My current work around was to create and alias folder on my desktop and have all of my downloads go directly to my hard drive.

M1 Mac, updated to Sonoma. Only using Brave Browser. Like I said, downloads to Desktop folder (which is synced to iCloud) absolutely perfect.

Why don't you ask there? This seems like a Brave specific issue.

What directory is the file in when they open it?
When I open the file from a search using spotlight, and look at the dropdown menu in preview to see the file location, it says that the file is on my desktop.
When I look at my desktop, it is not there.
When I open desktop in a finder window, I can see the file, but it is greyed out, and cannot be opened or moved in the finder window.
Sometimes I can see the download on my desktop while it is downloading, and then it disappears upon completion.
Sometimes the download does not appear on my desktop at all.
If I try to re-download the same file with the same name, I get an error message saying, "the file can't be replaced because it's invisible."

OP, have you tried removing Brave and reinstalling? Make sure that you have Brave sync (sync chain) turned on or at least have an export. Alternatively, you could sign out of iCloud and sign back in to see if there was a linking issue with iCloud. Just a thought.

Happens also with Chrome

Disable iCloud desktop synching and it should work.

Some say that configuring auto download to any directory will also work but if you have a window asking to manually download to a directory it will not work.

You can show all the hidden downloaded files via CMD+SHIFT+. (Dot) in the downloaded folder (e.g. Desktop)
