DP5 Boot problem

Hey guys so I updated from dp4 to dp5 today and after the download and install was finished it restarted as usual to finish the install, however when it booted back up I was greeted with a cancel sign after the bar loaded all the way.

I really do not want to have to reinstall yosemite but So far I have tried repairing the disk but to no avail. I had not had any problems with booting before updating but I figured I should mention I had just installed the latest trim enabler that supposedly supported 10.10.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this error? Would really appreciate some help asap

Are you certain you used the latest version of Trim Enabler?

I have a Mac Mini on DP5 with Trim Enabler *disabled* (I forgot to enable it again after the update from DP4 to DP5), and I'm going to keep an eye on this thread, hopefully someone can chime in and say Trim Enabler works for them on DP5.

Anyway, if you have another Mac, you can put the one that won't boot in Target Disk Mode, and use the other Mac to browse the System files and delete the kext that Trim Enabler installed. I'm actually not sure what the name of the kext is, but you might find a hint either on Google or by booting Verbose and looking at the text, hopefully picking out where things go wrong in the boot process.

Yeah I had a previous version of trim enabler on dp3-4 but cindori released an update a few days ago so I deleted the other and updated to the newest version. Everything was running fine and I had restarted with no problems on dp4 but as soon as the dp5 update was installed this occurred.

Also I tried following a guide from the web to remove the kext using the terminal in recovery mode but that did not change anything it seems.

After updating my Air it restarted but then I lost my keyboard and trackpad forcing a hard reset. Upon restarting the OS froze during the boot! forcing me to do another hard reset and THEN it loaded properly. I will never restart this mac again. LOL.

Yup. Trim enabled here and the DP5 install made my iMac non bootable with a circle and a slash

Figured id have to do the same, just sucks because I'm out of town and my other mac is back at home along with my backup files. If anyone has a way around having to reinstall id be greatly appreciative!

I did hear that dp5 can be downloaded as a full installer though correct?

Hmmm... This is a long shot, but it may work-

Use Kext Wizard (a popular app over in Hackintosh land) to repair permissions the drive with the messed up OS X installation on it.

Of course you'd have to be able to get into OS X, either on another Mac or your own... Perhaps you can boot in Safe Mode?


I haven't heard about a Direct-to-DP5 installer, but then again I haven't really looked!

I've tried booting in safe mode both ways and was given the same error? Are there any terminal commands that could delete the kext? I'm not very savvy with terminal so if someone could explain that would be great!

Also I won't have access to another mac until I get back but I am out of town for a few more days so I would really like to find a fix by using terminal

Unfortunately I'm not too skilled with Terminal... For what it's worth, you *can* use Terminal to recover documents and the like from your Macbook, in case the backups aren't recent enough. I only say that so you don't jump into a disk format.

Otherwise, I guess it's established that DP5 breaks Trim Enabler... And Trim Enabler breaks DP5. I don't envy your position, though I appreciate someone other than myself finding this all out.
