How can I drag and drop items between windows when they are not on the same screen? E.g. , when using stage manager

I'm aware you can drop items on the app's icon in the dock, but this only works for generally opening said items with said app. I mean when you need to drop them into a specific place in the app, such as add something to email attachment, or upload files via a web page

On windows, you can drag something and hold it over the app's icon in the taskbar for a second and it'll bring the app to front so you can drop it wherever you need. This doesn't work on Mac. Is there some trick I don't know?

Thanks

I solved this problem this way:

I configured a hot corner. Settings > Desktop & Dock > Hot corner. I set upper left corner to trigger mission control.

Now to drag and drop something between windows not on the same screen, I just drag it to upper left corner and wait for mission control to pop up, drag to target window and hover over it for a beat to force it to come to the front, and drop it where I want.

You could probably achieve the same thing by simply hitting the shortcut key for mission control while holding the mouse. I don't know because it is not something I am physically able to do, so I have to resort to the hot corner

There are a few apps out there to solve this problem, but I don't feel like installing/buying another app

Voila

I'm afraid that without purchasing a 3rd party app like Yoink (excellent app for this issue, by the way), you've probably come up with the best solution you can – which of course is great for you!

yeah, I don't know why you can't bring an app to front by hovering over the app's icon in the dock or the stage manager mini window whatever it's called, but have to go the roundabout way with mission control. If you could ever talk to someone at apple with an answer, I'm sure they'd give you some convoluted reasoning that nobody cares about.
