Drag and drop text editing not working in Mac Mail - intermittent

This is a constant irritant and started a couple of releases ago.

Drag and dropping text is intermittent in Mac Mail. Sometimes it works, then it stops working. It's inconsistent but when it stops it tends to stay stopped.

Has anyone else noticed this? There's an apple support item (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8617675) that mentions it, but that died of old age.

(For a change it's not specifically Catalina; it's something that changed a couple of releases ago)

I have had the same issue (no drag-and-drop text in Mail.app). Do you by chance use MailSuite or SigPro (the signature manager)? I discovered that disabling the SigPro component of Mailsuite v2019.0.1 restores drag-and-drop.

I've reported the bug to the publisher, and she has replicated it. It should be at least couple of weeks before the fix is made however, because developers are focused on the Big Sur-compatible version release at the moment.
