In earlier versions of the OS I could drag a file from Finder on top of the Mail icon, press space and Mail would open, and I could continue the dragging there. I could even create new mails, reply or whatever, still while holding the attachment with the mouse. The file was draggable as long as I held the mouse button down, and the wished outcome was of course to create an attachment on the mail/reply/forward/whatever I was doing in Mail.

I didn't realize how much I used this until it stopped working in MacOS Sierra. Because now it doesn't work anymore and it halts my work a lot...

Do any of you know what I mean? Is there a fix?

Tia,
Andreas

I will have a laptop with sierra on it again in a few days for a few hours. I will test the drag email attachment and see if it\s not working. Weird that it's removed as a feature. Kinda an 'all over the OS' thing that's always been there.

Yea, I know. Strange indeed.

I have reported it as a bug at the feedback page.

You now drag the item to the top of the screen, then hold it over the desktop that Mail is on.

Or, you simply drag and drop it onto the Mail icon in the Dock, if all you want is to create a new message with the item as attachment.

Please read what I asked for.

That still works. If you hold the item over the right desktop Mail will pop forward and you can do all of the above (using the keyboard).

Hmm... Not for me.

When I hold it over the Mail icon nothing happens (I press space, or wait forever to no avail). If I drop it (ie release the mouse button over the Mail icon) a new mail is created though, as it should.

Thanks for confirming that it works for you! I'll try with a new user on my Mac and see. Maybe one of my (very few though) extensions or other applications is messing with the OS...

I'm getting the same (new email) if I drop it onto the Mail icon. You need to drag it to the top of the screen, wait for the desktop switcher to pop down and hold it over the desktop that has the Mail app.

EDIT Alternatively, instead of dragging it to the top of the screen and waiting for the desktop switcher, you can also press F3.

I guess you are using Spaces? I'm not...
That means, when I drag something to the top of the screen nothing happens. (Thank God for that, cause I hate that "feature"...)

However, I can still use the "Mission Control" feature. Ie, show all open windows, and even though I don't like to be forced to have an open window just for this function to work, I tried it out. It doesn't work.

I guess that Apple forgot about their users that doesn't use Spaces and removed a perfectly working feature. :(

Thanks though!

I'm having this problem too and it's driving me mad! It is not only for mail though but for any application for me. I used to just press space bar and it opened all windows and the I drag it to a window, press space again the file could be droppen in the app. It sometimes works for but only once and then it stops working again. Based on that though I think it's a bug and not a feature.
