After 3 days playing with my new iMac (3,06 GHz. NVidia 130), There is one thing that I can´t find normal.

When I drag a window through the screen, it does not flow smoothly, but like "jumping".

It is not my first mac, as I have also an Air (1,86 GHz. 128 SSD), and though its screen is not as good as the iMacs, when I do the same dragging, windows flow effortlessly.

Are there any settings that I am missing?

Does this always happen? What apps do you have running and how much memory do you have in it? The MacBook Air, in no way, should out perform the iMac.

David

I first noticed it today, just moving finder windows. And with no apps running (just time machine and mobileme sync).

It has 4 Gb of ram.

Try a Safe Boot. Shut down and start up while holding the shift key down. It is recommended that you do this once a week when you are working with big applications like I am. I do this about once a week and whenever I have a problem like yours. It takes a while to startup, about 10 minutes for me compared to a normal one minute startup. I just set a paper weight on the shift key and walk away. This will hopefully fix your problem. Once you are in Safe Boot mode, login and then restart normally. I have seen this work wonders.

Other people have also complained about lagging GPU. Let's hope that Apple will write new drivers soon.

I have kinda the same problem (2,93, GT120). Whenever I bring up the dashboard or expose, also sometimes when dragging windows, it feels like the gpu has to "warmup" a little. At first it won't go so smooth, but after a few seconds it goes smooth as butter.

This has been the case since the very beginning, after I unboxed it last week, so it's not an app that's interfering...

Probably a gpu driver problem like said above. Hopefully they fix it with 10.5.7

i have not noticed this at all on my 3.06 with gt 130. have you cross referenced your mighty mouse on the air, to eliminate optical mouse issues? worth a try?

I suspect it is not a new iMac thing, but an NVidia driver thing. On my 2008 Mac Pro, I had an NVidia 8800GT and also and ATI 2600XT. The ATI card was always smooth, but the NVidia one was always a bit stuttery on the first Expose (but not subsequent ones). This is with all else being equal, only the card changed.

After being all night shut down, it seems everything is ok today (without doing a safe boot). It goes as smooth as it is supposed to...

But, am I becoming paranoid, or am I hearing a quite loud fan noise, that I didn´t before?

iStat says the main fan is slow (1.200 rpm), an the temperature low (41 C). Does the GPU have another fan that could make that noise?

I´d better try not to worry about these trivial things, but my baby is so young...
