Dragon Age Origins PC to Mac??

Hello.

I have a EA account with the original Deluxe Dragon Age for PC. Is there a way to download it for the Mac and use the same account without paying ? Sold off all of my PC's to get our Macs and I do not run bootcamp.


If not does anyone know of a good cheap sale?

A: At the moment: No. Although the Mac version is just the PC version wrapped in Transgaming's cider technology you cannot currently download or extract the PC version from the Mac version. I personally remain hopefully this will change but I would not even get close to expecting anything to change about that any time soon.
New Answer is: YES! The key that you receive for purchasing either the Mac or the PC version is good for the corresponding version of the game on the other platform no matter where you purchased it. There are a few very important catches to that however. Firstly there are two kinds of game keys: digital deluxe/collector's edition and the base game, no amount of fiddling can change that fact. Secondly there are two different kinds of dragon age on PC, the boxed and the digital edition. The keys are the same across both boxed and digital BUT the boxed version of the game requires the CD check (SecuROM if you care) and the digital version requires authorized log-in via your EA account. The difficulty comes in obtaining digital copies of both if you want to play both. At current I do not know a way beyond visiting certain shady torrent sites to obtain the Mac version of the game if you did not purchase and download it originally. It is out there on the internets if you have the key however but I won't be offering any help to find it, google is your friend (WARNING: only Mac keys have been proven to unlock and download the PC version, if you go the other way you do so at your own risk!) To get the PC version you can download the EA Download Manager and under the "activate" tab after you log in to your EA account, you should be able to download the PC client by entering your game key even if the version you purchased is Mac.

Hopefully this is clear but feel free to ask me (preferrably by posting in this thread so that others can see the answer to your problem as well! (Also thanks to DrMoebius and others for this information!)

Sorry, I don't think anybody's tried to go from PC to Mac. I wouldn't do it anyway, the mac version runs like crap.

Agreed.

Cider = no multi core support and software rendering.

Pure evil.

Spend your Mac dollars on Aspyr and Feral native games.
 
So from what I am hearing it won't be the same experience quality wise I had on my old quad gaming rig? Rats! Thanks for the heads up though

Hell no, wrappered games SUCK,

I was bought the Boxed PC version of DA:O and Awakenings, (the key did not work to unlock the mac version) and played it fantastically in bootcamp on my MBP with most settings set to high,

Got the MAC Version as a gift, its dog slow on LOW settings , looks washed out and not as crisp colour wise, and , worst of all, no in game downloads.

Now, i went to http://portingteam.com/ and grabbed the wrapper they , the community, have built using free tools, and loaded up the PC version into that, and its superb for a wrapper, and more playable than the "official" wrapper and all downloadable content works and connects online ok,

so, what exactly did transgameing or whoever do to earn there cut of revenue ? get the intern to load the PC dragon age into a clapped out wineskin wrapper with no optimisation in his lunch hour ?

Well said. I can confirm this on multiple counts.

Even Mass Effect 2 runs flawless on my MP courtesy of the porting team.
 
It's a Mac application bundle into which you drop the PC version of a game (you literally copy the game directory from your PC partition). Thereby encasing it in a nice WINE/Cider wrapper that makes the game run in OSX.

There are hundreds of games ported.

Results will vary, but certain games like Oblivion run fantastically well.

I've managed to get many of my Steam, D2D and Impulse purchases working fine in OSX.
