Hi I recently bought a new macboob pro 15 in with an i5 2.4 ghz processor, 4 gb ddr3 ram, nvidia geforce GT 330m. I was wondering if this would be able to run mac on pretty good quality settings? I plan on purchasing Dragon Age from direct2drive for mac. Or I could possibly setup bootcamp with win 7 64 bit. What would you guys recommend? Thanks

Dragon Age Origins performance question

You can do the Mac version but someone else will have to vouch for its performance. I've been playing it on my 2 year old MBP (see sig) under Vista with good performance. Great game!
Couple of things.
First, I've never run DAO on a 330M or 320M so I can't even guess at performance. Ok well yes I can guess, I guess it would probably run well enough to enjoy playing.
More substantially though - I suggest you seriously consider buying and playing the Windows version under bootcamp.
I feel bad recommending a Windows over an OSX version because we all want OSX native ports; but the truth is the Windows version runs better (partly just because Windows video card drivers are updated much more regularly than the OSX ones).
There is a second possibly even more important consideration - the OSX version has only limited support. Some of the updates and DLC content don't work on/exist for the OSX version, or can only be made to work with unsupported messing about. If you are happy just to play the vanilla game, or you have something against Bootcamp, the OSX version works and all. But if you want access to all the goodies now and into the future, the Windows version is the safer bet. Sad but true.

I would also highly recommend this game although I can't speak for how it would perform on your system. I have one of those I7 iMacs which really doesn't have a problem running just about anything I throw at it, including the Mac version of Dragon Age.
But I can speak to the availability of the downloadable content for the Mac version that the poster mentioned above. I bought the digital deluxe version which included the most possible content you could get for the game at the time. However, since then there has been some additional content made available only for the PC version. There's also been patches made available for only the PC version as well. The lack of patches for the Mac version has made it so some of the really good mods out there won't even work with the Mac version. Transgaming claims they're working on bringing this additional content to the Mac version but they've been saying that for months even though from a technical standpoint it should be trivial to do so. So if you want to get the Mac version you need to be aware of this.
That said, I am not disappointed with this game at all. The lack of that additional content stinks but it has yet to affect me as the game itself is huge and for me will probably have over 150 hours of gameplay in it when all is said and done. It's certainly one of the best role-playing games of the last decade.
