Drawn back to iPhone despite being (theoretically) completely satisfied with Android?

Anyone else in this situation?

I started with the iPhone 3GS. And I got the iPhone 4s. I was completely satisfied with both for longer than the two-year contract.

When the iPhone 5s was announced, I was swayed by Samsung's marketing and decided I wanted a larger screen with the Galaxy note 3.

I was satisfied for about three months, and I decided the phone was just too large, and since I had all the features turned off anyway it didn't make sense stick with it. I sold it and purchased the Moto X (with their cyber Monday pricing deal - enabling me to come out ahead in the money game), which is what I have currently.

The Moto X has fast updates, always listening feature, and active notifications which are amazing. I use them all the time and really like them. What's more, the phone is fast and smooth, I like Google play music, and pretty much all my apps are represented in the android landscape. What's more, it has a larger screen in a small pocketable size, and I love the Moto maker that allowed me to make a custom phone.

And yet... I find myself on swappa.com looking at iPhone 5s pricing. Wondering if the slightly reduced retail pricing is worth the risk of buying off the Internet. Or if, when the 6 is released, I should crazily consider buying it at full retail.

Because for some reason I can't really explain, I still want my iPhone. I don't honestly think it would do anything better than my Moto X, and probably some things worse than my Moto.

So - anyone else think like this and switch back?

That's normal I can't be satisfied with either OS. Have a galaxy note 3 right now and want an iPhone 6 and heck even a Nokia Lumia. Both OSes have advantages and draw backs. I'd get the 6 for full retail later this year.

Yup, I went through the same kind of thoughts. Went from a 4S to a Note 2 first. Except I wouldn't say it was Samsung's marketing that did it, I just started feeling the urge for a larger screen + some of Android's features.

Anyway then I started really missing my 4S, after like 6 months. I missed that overall smoothness, unity of design, and reliability of iOS. So I went back to the 4S for daily use and was totally happy with it for a while, using the Note 2 as a wifi mini tablet.

But...then I swung back again. And now I'm in love with my Note 2 all over again, having all but forgot about the iPhone. In the end, the functionality of Android makes the Note 2 an overall much smoother experience for me as a whole (+ it got a lot smoother with 4.3), and the larger screen is just too comfortable to pass up. That, and iOS 7 became too annoying in the long run.

I've been with Android forever, and as you said despite being completely satisfied with it I am thinking about picking up a 5s. I might save a little bit and use the 5s and HTC One side by side for a while and use the best of both worlds.

Having a preference for one after at least 'experiencing' the other is nothing to be ashamed of. Whether that be Android, iOS, BB, WP etc.... As long as you are happy with the device you own - and it does what you want it to do - then it makes diddly squat difference what other people think. Opinion is subjective.

Just use whatever you enjoy. End of.

Not for me.. I was apple mad but the screen bring do small and not able to do much with the phone drawn me to Samsung and the Note 3 is easily the best phone I ever had.. I will be sticking with the note line from now on. But what works for me wouldn't for others

For me Note 3 blows the 5s away but for others that means very little. IT WHAT WORKS FOR YOU!

iPhone has never drawn me back in lol. The four major mobile operating systems (Android, Blackberry, iOS, Windows Phone) are essentially the same thing with slightly different looks; just an app drawer and/or an app shortcut screen with some kind of WebOS copycat "cards" multitasking thrown on top. As for the hardware, even the cheapest phone has an HD screen and a dual core processor now .

It's fun to jump around between devices though, I've bought a few older phones just to see what all of the operating systems are like and to mess around.

My problem with Android is there are too many options. I can't go more than 2 months with a single Android device before I sell it and get another one. Then I'll get burned out on switching devices so fast so I'll stop for a little while and just use my iPhone. Then without fail I'll get bored again with just one device so the Android merry go round starts again. If I absolutely had to I could use either Android or iOS exclusively and be completely happy. I enjoy using both.

Yes, I went back to a iPhone 5S recently but still really like Android. The main reason was my new job as we use the most horrid email system in the world Lotus Notes.

The Lotus Traveler app for Android is terrible and using the Exchange app always seems to have one issue or another. I used Touchdown for a long time but it's a separate app so no integrated calendar.

My work supports iPhones and they just work better in this environment.

When I left the iPhone 5 for the S4 I thought it was temporary until a larger iPhone was finally released. But at this point I'm not sure if a larger iPhone will make me switch back.

At this point the only thing that could tempt me is the iPhone camera, which tends to be excellent. But I've grown very fond of Android since making the jump.

I'm not really sure OP what your motivations are. You say you like Android but want to try the 5S. Other than wanting to try iOS 7 I don't see why you'd switch back at this point if you like Android.

This is so true. Apple's leaving a lot of money on the table by clinging to just one size. They've lost out on two years of even greater profits had they added a larger iPhone along with the current size. There's plenty of demand for both.

Now that it appears they may join the others in that segment, they'll end up bragging like they love to do.

Apple is getting awfully predictable.

But if Apple can blow us away with a rumored solar charging screen, sapphire crystal glass that curves and have the screen bigger, I might get interested with them again. I might even consider an iPhone again if their iWatch looks amazing as well.

The solar power stuff sounds really cool.

I think this is very normal, especially if you were happy with the iphone before switching to android. I currently have a nexus 5 and iphone 5s. I really love both.

The iphone is better as a phone IMO. Most of my friends and family have iphones and all of the products in my house play better with IOS devices. I know I can buy substitutes, but I truly believe apple does the "home" better than anyone else. Also, the camera is simply amazing. The shutter speed and quality of photos blows my nexus out of the water. I like smaller phones. I am sure it has a lot to do with having tiny hands, but I want my every day phone to be a one handed device.

The nexus is a better media consumption device. The bigger screen is great on the eyes and looks fantastic during video playback. The file system makes it easier to download and re-upload files. I enjoy browsing the web and getting "work" done on the nexus.

How can the iPhone be boring? Are you staring at the home screen regularly? Are you simply saying the things you use the phone for are boring? I guess perhaps the look of the apps gets old (even though they change as they are updated)?

I just don't get the whole "bored" concept. The smartphone is a tool. We use it to consume media, connect with people and absorb information. The package these things come in is of little concern as one is rarely staring at a home screen.

Now, if there were things about the iPhone that made a task particularly difficult to you, I understand that. But the "I'm bored" reason for moving away from an iPhone just never really made any sense to me.

Haha - you and me both. I'm going to do my best to stay off the Android merry-go-round this year. If I upgrade my Moto G, it'll be either the Moto X (2014), HTC One (2014) or Nexus 6. But that's a BIG if.

I'll be waiting for the iPhone 6 and will likely purchase the larger one if it indeed is released. I'm hoping the money I save by not getting involved in upgrading on the Android side will allow me to purchase an iPhone 6 without selling any of my current devices.

I'd like to keep my 5S for work and the 5C as a backup phone....my wife has both lost and broken iPhones in the past!

What is to understand?

Someone says iOS is boring has nothing to do with the apps on it. They are generally talking about the UI with the grid of apps that is iOS.

I work with a guy that set up his S4 home screen as a picture of his office. Touch the computer and a Internet app folder pops up, touch the TV and a multimedia app folder pops up, etc etc. Scroll to the next home screen and he has a his stock, weather and sport widgets.

Regardless going back to my iPhone (which I still prefer) is....boring..
