iPod dreaded menu button not working problem

Hi,

I have the iPod mini and am having the problem where my menu button has just decided not to work. I hear the click when I press it, and if I hold it and the center button down my iPod reboots as it should. But the menu button on its own doesn't work, which means i can't scroll 'up' menus anymore.

I've rebooted and updated to the latest firmware with no luck. I've done some searching on different iPod forums and this seems to be a common problem. All I can see is that I have to send it in for repair. It is out of warranty though. Is there any way to fix this or have it fixed by apple for free since it seems to be a common defect in many minis?

When you say you rebooted, do you mean you reinstalled the firmware from scratch? If you didn't I'd give that a try before taking it in to get it fixed.

You could also try to run diagnostics on the mini to test if the menu button is working as it should.
