My dream desktop is a different matter, but of what's currently available, I'm typying on my "Dream Notebook" right now--17" MBP with 7200RPM drive and 2GB RAM.

The only thing I'm missing is a SATA card for the expresscard slot, which I'm going to buy when money isn't so tight.

Not that I wouldn't rather have a Merom, but it's not out yet, so I'm not speccing fantasy.

23" iMac, matte black, Conroe or Merom, whichever will remain as quiet and unobtrusive as my current iMac, top-shelf graphics card, two FW800 slots, an eSATA slot, and a card reader for Compact Flash (only CF - SD/xd/etc. users can bite it).

Quadro chipset graphic card
Futuristic coolant system

My dream Mac right now is really not too far off my iMac. I'd like quad-core or dual dual-core CPUs, an extra hard drive (for video scratch) and that's about the only thing I'd change. A 23" iMac would be cool I guess, but I'm perfectly happy with my 20" screen.

I am hoping that the next release of the iMac will have a few of these as BTO (not all, I know we won't have all of this):

iMac 23"
Top of the line Conroe (not the Extreme though, the normal version)
4 GB of ram
750 GB HDD
Firewire 800
512 MB VRam
More USB port

Think of it as a Mac Pro Mini! Or rather a mid budget Mac tower. The minis are nice and all but I do like to have a bit more options besides a pint sized computer and a girly AIO :p

But so much of that wasnt real, a 7400 RPM HD...? and isnt the Thinkpad the one with the finger scanner, anyway my dreammachine would have to be a just my current maxed 17'' MBP with a DL Lightscribe Blue Ray (also burns any other DL DVD).

Would really appreciate an iMac that could knock up a decent cheese & ham toastie and a nice cup of tea.

Or have I missed the point?

A MacBook Pro with integrated 3G Broadband (EV-DO for the states, HSDPA for Europe) would have me swiping my credit card faster than you can say Steve Jobs.

I guess all that could trump that would be a top-spec Woodcrest powered Mac Pro with noodles of RAM.

A black anodized aluminum 12" PB (still a PB to me...) with Intel 64bit dual core chip... still waiting for that one. 256 MB of VRAM, 4 GB of ram. FW 400 a must, FW 800 - would be nice.
