Hi all. I was considering buying either the new iPad Air with the A14 chip or the plain iPad with the A12 chip.

I'll be running the Dreamlab app with the Covid project(s) 24x7 and want to see how many results I can expect to get each day.

Can you share with me how many results you are getting per hour or day?

Thanks so much!

There are multiple "Dreamlab" apps on the App Store. Which one are you referring to?

Hmmm. I've never seen more than 1. Thanks for the alert.

I am talking about the Vodafone one: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dreamlab/id1273619275

It was originally created to help find a cure for cancer, but when the pandemic hit they opened up a covid project.

I run this on all sorts of iPhones and iPads at home, however, just not the latest iPad or iPad Air.

Thanks again.

I bought the iPad Air and it's crunching about 100 Covid work units a day. That's a bit strange since my older iPad is crunching about 190 each day.

Has anyone run this app on the new iPad Pro or new MB Air, both with the M1 chip?

I bought an M1 Mac Mini with 8GB RAM and it's crunching Dreamlab Covid at about 1 unit every 6 minutes. So about 10 an hour or about 240 a day. Why does the M1 on the Mini run so much better than the M1 on the iPad Air? It's supposedly the same chip.

Because they're not the same chip. They have the same building blocks but the final configuration is different.

A14 (Air 4): 2 high power CPU cores + 4 low power CPU cores + 4 GPU cores

M1: 4 high power CPU cores + 4 low power CPU cores + 8 GPU cores + double the memory bandwidth

The Mac Mini also benefits from active cooling.

My bad. I was thinking the iPad Pro M1 that has not arrived yet. :) I'll let folks know in a few days when it arrives.

Where are you finding these tech specs about high power vs. lower power cpus? The A14 vs. M1 articles I've read don't talk about which are high/low power and what that even means.
