I have a 2019 iMac 27”, 3.6g 8core I9. In 2019 I also created a portable USB SSD using VMWare Fusion to put windows 10 and Bootcamp on the external drive. I did this by following instructions in an article I had found. It has worked flawlessly until yesterday when I updated AMD Radeon driver for my graphics card. Since then I get no sound while booted in Windows 10. Neither through internal speakers or through headphone jack. Windows shows “No output devices found” in the system sound tab. I do have sound when booted in Mac OS. According to Device Manager, the driver for Intel High Definition Audio is missing. I am unable to roll back driver because button is greyed out. When I try to update driver through Windows it says driver not available. I tried to update Bootcamp and that did not fix the issue. I tried updating drivers using 3rd party utility and it did show the Intel High Def Audio driver as one of the updates but it did not fix the issue. Device Manager still shows a yellow triangle and indicates no driver.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I don’t know what else to try, short of a re-install of Windows. I’d rather leave that as a last resort. Thanks. Jim

After doing more research, I have found that there is a driver installed for the High Definition Audio device. It shows up in an Intel Support Scan of my system as being “AtihdWT6.sys”. However, it appears that this driver may have problems and it will not allow itself to be replaced with other drivers. Also, it does not show up as being there in Device Manager. does anyone have any suggestions for how to resolve this?

I also tried to install an older (previous) AMD Radeon driver package but it won’t allow. I get this message.

I found something else. Apparently there are (2) instances of a High Def Audio device in Device Manager.one located in Other Devices tab has yellow triangle and is the bad one that shows no driver installed. The other version is in Sound, video and game controllers tab and that one looks fine and shows having a driver. Is there any way to delete the bad Hi Def Audio device shown in Other devices?

I tried uninstalling the bad device in Device Manager and restarting. Bad device reappeared after restart.

Have you tried (re)installing the Windows support software?

Thanks Brian, I have tried running Windows Support in Bootcamp to update/fix the Bootcamp interface. Unfortunately I continue to get a Bootcampservice.exe error. Once that error box is cleared it says installation successful but underlying problem persists. I just tried downloading a fresh copy of Windows Support and ran it again. I now get a new error, in addition to the BootcampService.exe., related to a missing Qt5Core.dll. I don’t know what that is.

It seems that something corrupted in Bootcamp is likely the cause of the problem. I’m not sure if it is possible to correct this without starting over and wiping everything. I hope there is another way but I’m running out of ideas.
