eMusic have apparently (re?)launched their service in the UK with DRM-free MP3s

More details are here but it does sound quite interesting - worth a trial anyhow perhaps

The deal appears to be £9 a month for unlimited listening and up to 40 downloads (which continue working after you stop subscribing) and they say their management app works on both PCs and Macs...

I recently had a 100 song free trial with them.

Not bad on the whole but there's a bit of a lack of choice for my tastes and the songs are VBR rather than say 320kbps which is the minimum i'll accept (i am fussy though).

It's a nice, low hassle service. One area where I give them very high marks is ease of cancellation, if you decide you don't care for the service. They don't make you phone in at inconvenient hours and wait on hold, you can do it right on the Web.

I'm not going to put down any conclusions about the quality of the selection or how well they did with the encoding job, that's all too much of a personal preference thing. I will say that the service is at least worth a look, because it has a nice selection of not-so-mainstream stuff you won't find elsewhere.
