Drop caps in InDesign

Hello all,

Some of you may be able to help me on this:

I'm kinda stuck with trying to apply drop caps in InDesign because I wanted to apply a drop cap ONLY on the first paragraph not on the following paragaraphs.

I tried the simpler way by selecting the first letter of the first paragraph which I want this to be the drop cap but somehow this also applies to the following paragraphs also gaining drop caps too!

How do I make InDesign realise I wanted the drop cap to be applied to the first paragraph only?

You set up two paragraph styles, one for the first para, which you tell to include a drop cap, the other for the rest of the body text in which you don't include a drop cap instruction.

When you set up your two styles be sure to base your drop cap style on the body copy style. That way if you need to change the font, you only have to change it once.

Good point, Macstudent.

You create a paragraph style for the body text and save it. Then you use this for the opening par, and add the instruction to make a drop cap. Like nested tables.
