Dropped iPhone

considering you will have to go through Apple (at least for now) I am affraid it is going to cost you. Chances are unless you have a friend at an Apple store they might require you to have it shipped out for repair and will not just sell you he backing. Tough break, At least we know it's solid.

$47 for back cover to do it yourself, but it's a bit involved:

if having a new back cover really matters to you, i suggest you just take arns advice and buy + put the new cover on yourself.

I'm afraid it's more than that. The button itself is recessed into the case a little bit. Which makes using the button more difficult than before. I guess I'll get an estimate and see what they say. Then it's invisishield time. Luckily I had a crystal cover on the face. Saved a couple good scratches from becoming permanent.
 
Try calling Apple about it - I accidentally scratched my iPhone screen with my Titanium wedding ring and they sent me a brand new one absolutely free, plus they sent me a free loaner while I waited for my replacement. Give it a shot!
 
You know whats weird..i had the iphone in my shirt pocket and i bent over and it feel exactly in the same place as yours did and now it has the same exact dent 3 little dents by the power bottom. hmmmmm....coincidence? :confused: i think not
 
I dropped my iPhone twice . . . once in a case and once naked. I was fortunate (and lucky):cool: not to have sustained any type of damage from either fall :cool:
 
dropped mine today. dented the back case near the silent button. Now, the hole is deformed, and the button cant slide back to ringer. So its stuck on silent for the time being. Going to apple store after work.
 
Dropped phone - scratched

svenhoops, I took my iPhone in because of a mysterious scratch on the screen. It's not very big, but the guy at the Biltmore Apple store in Phoenix pretty much said tough luck. I haven't called the 800 number but after your post I am thinking of doing so. Did you go in or call the 800 number?

Sorry about those dents! I could have sworn i read on a post on this forum that said the back of the iphone was plastic and not metal. If it is plastic would it dent like that? I would think if its plastic it would crack rather then dent.

Yeah i dropped mine near the silent ringer switch but i was a bit luckier i got a mild series of little scratches above the button, and it slightly deformed the whole where the switch was but very minor only an iphone owner would notice it and be bothered by it... but fortunately my switch still works... good luck getting you iphone fixed..

i called th 1-800-my-iphone line and they said i would be better off going into a store so they can look at it. went to chandler because i happened to be out there today (i normally go to biltmore) and talked to a one of their staff. they swapped it out on site. re-syncing now.

i find the biltmore staff to be INCREADIBLY unhelpful, rude and snobbish. I go in there ALOT, buy several mac pros (or high end accessories) every other month, yet they still treat me like a freaking drunk hobo that wandered into the store. I get increadibly angry when I am waiting for an hour with cash in hand for a quad core with 8 gigs of ram, and dual 30" ACD's because they need to sell more ipods to highschool kids.

btw- have a "story" as to what happened to your phone, and im sure you will get much better results. dont just say you dropped it.

i have read it is plastic as well, but it dented JUST like metal. never seen plastic do anything like it.
 
yeah i dropped mine too (on rock hard tile floor from about 5 feet) and it must have landed precisely on the on/off button. It jammed the button down and the iphone would consistently turn the screen off when I was trying to use it and occasionally prompt me to "slide to power off." I called Apple and told them that my power button was jammed. They asked me if i dropped it and I said no :cool: so they sent me a loaner (for $29) and I sent my broken iphone in and they sent me a brand new one at no charge. I thought they would surely figure out that I dropped it cause there were little scratches around the power button so I was surprised and happy I didn't have to pay for the repair or replacement.

Yeah, just call 1-800-MY-IPHONE and let them know what happened. I was told that it should normally cost $249 for the repair plus $29 for the loaner, but they must have been feeling generous that day. Good Luck!
