Dropped Macbook..

Hello everyone,

Yes, I know - I dropped my brand new Macbook.. by accident of course - anyways.. It basically did a backflip and landed on the cover.. and snapped shut. The good news? No damage to the hardware - buttt.. when I open the lid from a closed state you can hear the sound of plastic being stressed against each other.. anyone have any idea where this could be coming from / how to fix it?

I got this MB a few weeks ago from online Applestore..

Check the area between the hinge and rear corner: the lid sweeps very close to the inside surface there when you open or shut it. Might even be a bit of grit in the edge of the screen surround.

Do people reckon MacBooks are more resistant to damage than the MacBook Pros? I got a lecturer who uses a 15" G4 powerbook, and managed to pretty much throw it to the ground as he turned up late to the lecture in a rush, walking into a chair on the way to the front of the room. Landed with a satisfying crunch, and was presenting the lecture fine 2 minutes later.

How high did you drop your macbook from?

Someone should set up a poll - 'Highest you've dropped your notebook from and have it survive unscathed'

Yeah, it's there. It appears that the screen component of popped out on the bottom and not in line with the border. When I try to 'click' it in, it just 'clicks' out again. What should I do? I need this unit.. it's my lifeline.. haha.

I dropped it from about 60cm..

In my experience, this Macbook is a lot more resistant than my Powerbook 15" G4.

Take it to an Apple Store and ask them. You've probably broken a retaining clip or something.

My girlfriend left my Powerbook on and open with the power lead trailing across the kitchen. Her brother then tripped over the power lead wrenching the connector round and sending the powerbook flying off the table. 4 foot drop onto tiled floor whilst open and on - ouch!

Surprisingly, apart from a severly disfigured power adaptor connector and some scratches it's still working fine!

Still, that was a relationship tester I can tell you...
