I have AppleCare + and I also have Worth Group Insurance.

I dropped my iPhone X today on a driveway and it broke the back glass (one large crack, and one edge chip), as well as made some very rough deep rash marks on two parts of the metal band. The metal damage is rough enough that I wouldn't want to put the phone down on my dining table because it might scratch the table from the rough steel corners.

I don't like using a $1200 phone with major cosmetic damage. What are my options?

Can I have it replaced by Applecare+ for $99? Or will I need to accidentally break the screen or worse to qualify for replacement?

Another options would be to pay for a new outer stainless steel band and back glass, although I don't know if that kind of repair is possible or who would do it.

Alternatively I can claim on the Worth Ave Insurance, but I hate using that since I really intended that for theft (although their coverage details suggest they cover accidental damage such as drops).

get a skin for the back, emery paper the edges. get a slim case.

It has now been christened. Time to use it and enjoy it :)

If the back is cracked Apple will replace the phone. No way to repair it in store. It’s your decision if you want to use one of your two AppleCare+ repairs. I’d suggest some type of case to avoid future accidents

That's good. I thought AppleCare might refuse because the damage is cosmetic and doesn't affect the functioning of the phone.

I could do this, but given I paid for AppleCare + and also given the price of the phone, I can't bear walking around with a damaged device.

But I will probably start using a case now. Normally I keep it in a sleeve but today I forgot the sleeve at home.
