iPhone 6S. It had a Lifeproof Fre case on it. It was sitting underwater for at least 10-15 minutes, it still works but there are some odd watermark looking things on certain parts of the screen and the headphones icon keeps appearing and stays there. What is the best thing I can do for it, should I take it apart to dry it or put it in rice? Thanks!

Or silica gel packs (the ones that come with meds, electronics, supplements; various retail places sell them). But at this point, probably too late. Device may be dry, but, coated in trace elements that could fry the boards. Once you turned it on, probably shortened the life of the device.

As above^^, see if you have some level of insurance. At this point, device probably need some deep cleaning. Guessing will now have a shortened life span.

So it's too late to have a speciality shop take it apart and clean it?

The *only* real solution you can have at this point, is as an ultrasonic bath, which a third-party repair shop could possibly do, but I personally would allow Apple to service it. You could opt to have it disassembled and dry out that way as well, but at this point, if there was any water intrusion, it would eventually affect the logic board and shorten its lifespan greatly. There isn’t much hope for waterlogged devices.

I dropped my iPhone 6s Plus in a pool and pulled it out quickly. It had those water marks on the screen you describe. I had AppleCare and they didn’t bother to repair it—they swapped it out.

Holy $h*t it worked!!! This pretty reputable phone repair shop was able to save it! Just had to replace the screen which had water stains for $100 but they waved the $30 cleaning, it's like brand new. I am incredibly grateful, I can't believe they fixed it.

If you had a third party replace the screen, I would caution you to be careful when updating your iPhone to future iOS updates. Wait until others with third party replacement screens have downloaded the updates and verify it works with their screens. Apple has been known to unintentionally (or is it intentional, lol) brick phones with third party replacement parts. They'll usually correct the issue but you may end up with a blank screen if it happens to you.

Personally I will pay the somewhat higher premium to have Apple fix their products so there isn't any issues with compatibility of replacement parts.

Bring it to Apple. Situations like this call for the Pros

What’s nice about Apple, you don’t even have to bring your iPhone to them, you can ship it direct and they can assess and repair the iPhone , send it back to the user if need be. A lot of iPhone users don’t have Apple stores within reach, and the way they have their shipping services set up for the customer the Apple is well executed.

Glad you got it sorted out!
