Last night my boyfriend accidentally dropped his phone in the toilet it just fell out of his shirt pocket when he went to flush. He quickly grabbed it out and started drying it with the hair dryer, but the phone was unresponsive. It just kept flashing the apple logo, at one point the sim card was not recognizing his credentials cause this were soaked. We took out the sim card and dried it. i told him to let it sit overnight and otherwise go to the apple store. As a true programmer he is afraid to take it to the apple store cause he put endless programs in his phone.. men! The biggest problem right now is that the phone wont stay turned off, he manage to turn it off but then it quickly turns back on????? the phone seems to be working somewhat, some features are coming back.. but the touch screen does not respond, he can make but not receive phone calls, it goes to vm. what else can be done to dry this thing out! since it cannot be opened in any way? What can he do to make sure the phone get back to 100% normal? is there hope? please help!! thanks :(

THis is simple, you can say now oh [removed] the warranty is void, because the phone has a paper inside that changes color depending if its wet, (and dont turn back to the original color) but, apple changes the phone payin a fee of 150 bucks I think:p and give you a new one

this is bad. I think in this instance, wait for a while longer and hope that it suddenly works or just bite the bullet and head over to the Apple store. That's the best solution now.

I've heard that putting it in a tupperware thing full of rice will dry it out more than just leaving it out. Not sure if it works, but it could be worth giving it a try. Sucks that that happened. Keep us updated...it may just take time. :)

One of my friends had the same thing happen to their 2G iPhone and unfortunately had to buy a new one. But hopefully you can get it working again. :)

The battery will die eventually and it won't turn back on. Let it dry, the rice works. I've done it before with other electronics.

And next time, don't keep anything you value in a shirt pocket. It always falls out.

These are the prices to get it fixed by Apple.

Yeah. My dad bought a RAZR the first day it was out for $400 subsidized  and it fell out of his shirt pocket and cracked in half a few months later. At least he bought the extended warranty and was able to replace it with a black one. He has an iPhone 3G Black 16Gb now, btw.

A friend's two-year old son threw her 2G iPhone in the toilet - she got it out,
let it dry for a couple days, and it works as if nothing happened to it.

iphone in the toilet

Last night my boyfriend accidentally dropped his phone in the toilet...please help!! thanks :(

I actually dropped my 1st gen iphone in the toilet by accident one time too, and mine stayed in there longer. It took me a few seconds to realize what had just happened. :D

I pulled it out, turned it off then let it sit by a medium sized fan which I left on for about a day and a half until it got really dry.

When I plugged it back in to charge it worked fine, there were some internal water stains on the screen which for the most part faded out within a couple weeks and the phone still works fine to this day.

I would recommend doing that.
Hope this helps! :D

i am sorry but i really laugh out when i read the title of this thread after i saw this 404 page.

Iphone+liquids=my worst nightmare! But from what i have heard it is best to try and keep the phone off and in a bowl of rice (it's supposed to absorb moisture) for about 4-5 days. Also, you should not use Any heat to dry it out

yep put it in a bag of rice once the battery dies. This way it will suck out all the moisture.

This is so gross. I mean, this is something i'm always scared of... which is exactly why I always take my phone out of my pocket and put it on the counter before lifting the toilet seat.

If i dropped my iphone in a toilet filled with pee or dookie, i'd be done with that phone for sure.

I know what i'd do...i'd use tongs to get it outta the toilet, then dry it off with a towel (without touching it) the best i could.

Then put it in a bag with rice and let it sit in there for a few days (the rice draws the water out of electronics) and then, i'd whipe it down with a wet-tipe and jailbreak it, sell it on ebay.

Definitely.

dont wanna sound weird or anything but I have actually had nightmares about this very subject. I literally woke up one night freaking out because I thought my iPhone went swimming with me. Shoot now I am going to dream about this tonight! good luck with the drying out, try the rice and let us know! GOOD LUCK.

PS. If it doesnt work you can always buy your boyfriend a new iPhone for Christmas and that water proof otterbox case!

Wow... didn't know that about puting electronics in rice... nice to know!

Yeah did it with my old RAZR. Anything happens to my iphone it goes straight to the rice.

It's an iphone man how can you not?

LOL i had a dream that i dropped the iphone and the whole glass screen cracked. Woke up my eyes darted at the iphoen to make sure it's fine.

Same thing happened to me while traveling through Poland. While sitting down it fell out of the inside pocket of my jacket. Didn't even see it - just heard a strange metallic sound below me

I was lucky because it got stuck half way in the water. The funny thing is that it displayed something like this after I pulled it out: This device is not compatible with the iPhone :D
I am not kidding.

Anyways, I quickly dried the surface and put it into an oven at 60 °C. I also had the problem that it wouldn't stay off, but since wet contacts cause this there is not much one can do about it. I took it out of the oven after an hour and made a few test calls. This was 9 months ago and I haven't noticed any problems since then. Only the speaker and mic sounded a little strange for the first days...

This is not an iPhone issue. You both have some serious underlying, unresolved issues. :D

Final Vote

Per the boyfriend, he says, quote:

"Time heals all wounds. I removed the sim card with a pin. Then wrapped phone in a towel and placed a few feet from a space heater. Warmed on and off for two days. Now all is well. No smears on screen. Connect to wifi flawlessly. And best of all, now my phone shuts down and rests. God is great."

"I think the prayers helped."

hahaha i love the picture

glad it's working again

I'm with you. If he was flushing.......#1 or #2??

Either way I don't think I'd want to ever put it to my face again!

The phone is so dope, even poo can't make it stink.

Now the funny thing is the toilet was flushed. He was throwing something in the wastebasket that was by it when he bent down and the phone slide out the shirt.

quote: "... time stood still. I scooped it out but it fell out the case and in it went again. After drying, used hair dryer then the screen went scrambled and flashed on/ off..."

Heck, all's well that ends well.
