:( Bone stock 1.1.3 iPhone and I am finding that after the upgrade to 1.1.3 my phone is dropping a lot more calls. (traveling the same route for years and know I have good coverage) I find that quite often after about 5 to 8 min of talking the call will get dropped, the signal bars drop to 0 and the display show call failed. When I press end call the signal immediately returns to full strength and the phone works normally.

Wonder if anyone else has here noticed more dropped calls with 1.1.3 ?

Dropped Calls

The same exact thing is happening to me. I live in San Francisco and there is signal to be had everywhere - however - after updating to 1.1.3 - I am dropping 90% of my calls.

I called AT&T customer support - who sent me to their store - I dropped 3 calls on the way there. They told me that everything was fine on their end and sent me to the Apple store. Dropped 1 call on the way there.

Went to the Apple store - and after waiting for an hour (in which I dropped the two calls I received) - the guy at the genius desk made a call on my phone - and because it didn't drop in the 20 seconds he was on it - he said it was fine - and sent me on my way.

On the way home - 5 dropped calls.

I want to pull out my hair! Does anyone have any suggestions or the same problem.

Just a question, do you use a Bluetooth Earbud? I use the Apple Bluetooth earbud and it seems that when talking directly on the phone without the earbud it does not drop, or as much.... still a just theory, as I know other people are seeing bluetooth problems, maybe this is related.

I do have bluetooth (motorola) - which I use half the time - I drop calls equally with or without it.

I have also noticed an increase in dropped calls after the update. very disappointed in the way the updates seem to brake more features than they fix.

dropp calls after 1.1.3 upgrade

I also live in San Francisco and recently upgraded to 1.1.3 on my iphone. My phone is dropping calls every 5 minutes and its driving me crazy. I spoke with apple customer service and they made me reset and restore my phone through Itunes. That did not solve the problem. The following day, I spoke with At&t about the issue and after all their diagnostics they told me that it was probably a software upgrade problem and that I should downgrade back to the previous 1.1.2

A lot of help they were.

Update

So - I went to the Apple store again this morning. I brought copies of my phone bill printed out from the internet to show the repeated calls I was making due to dropped calls. These were also in my call history on my phone. After doing some things to my phone - they decided to switch mine out for one that had the 1.1.2 firmware instead of the upgrade.

And guess what - not one dropped call since! I will not update this phone to the new firmware. The guy at the apple store told me it was an isolated incident - and that he and the other guys had updated iphones without issues - but I had brought proof that mine was ridiculously messed up...and considering the issues that I found on this board and others - it makes me wonder how isolated this incident is.

Good Luck

I don't think you can downgrade the firmware without hacking your phone - which voids the warranty.

This is a real problem

I don't think the dropped call issue is isolated. I have 2 iPhones in my family. Both of them started dropping calls frequently since the 1.1.3 update. They never had this problem before.

Ok, I'm running into this problem now and it's driving me crazy. Updated two days ago. Never had any real problems with dropped calls before.

Now in the past 2 days I've made probably 5-6 phone calls and 3 of them have dropped at about the 3-5 min range. Was wondering what the hell was going on until I did some googling and found other people had the problem.

Seeing as how we can't downgrade the baseband w/o hacking it, not sure what else I can do. I'll stick it out for a little longer but if it keeps dropping I'll probably have to make a trip to the Apple store.

Okay I thought I was the only one experiencing this, I was int he AT&T forums and people were telling me I had a broken iPhone (hardware issue: antenna repair) but I think that's BULL because before the update I didn't have issues with calls being dropped. It's the most annoying thing ever, I get 5-6 daily when I didn't have any before. Someone please figure out what is causing this, I need an answer quick. I want to avoid replacing it because I have a feeling it will do the same thing if I get a brand new replacement and I'd just cause myself to waste gas and time doing so.

I'm afraid this will happen if I go find help at an Apple Store.

I called AT&T customer support - who sent me to their store - I dropped 3 calls on the way there. They told me that everything was fine on their end and sent me to the Apple store. Dropped 1 call on the way there.

On the way home - 5 dropped calls.

I'm from the Bay Area as well and there is a repeater right by my house, about 2-5 miles away and an Oakland International Airport. I never had any signal problems before, but ever since this update, it's been a nightmare, I hope Apple fixes this soon!

Well after a couple of days my phone seems to be a bit better. I don't drop as many calls. I did hard reset the phone though a few times so maybe I never did that after I upgraded. Who knows.

I'm still leery but at this point I can't really do much except wait for the next update.

I had two dropped calls today. First dropped calls I've ever had and, sure enough, I upgraded to 1.1.3 a couple of weeks ago. I'm on O2 in the UK, incidentally

After going to the apple store

After dealing with AT&T and trying to take their advice and downgrade back to 1.1.2, I realized that that was a difficult task. I went to the apple store and explained my problem to the guys in the genius bar. After telling them that my phone sucks because it drops calls all the time, i was told to do a full restore.

I told them that I had already done that and my calls still get dropped. They then told me that I should not reload the backup because if I do, I might re-install the bugged code back into my phone. I took their advice, went home and did a full restore without backing up my phone. I lost all of my txt messages, but kept my contacts since they are synced on itunes. Long story short, my phone still drops calls. I guess I need to bring it back to the apple store and try and get a new iphone that has 1.1.3 pre-loaded.

I don't think it will make a difference if you have 1.1.3 pre loaded on a brand new iPhone or not. I really think it's the 1.1.3 update itself. I did the full reset, full restore, re-sat the sim card, plugged my usb into it, etc. basically tried every solution you can think of, I have another phone called the O2 Cocoon which is unlocked for AT&T and used that, I had no dropped calls but with my iPhone I continue to get 3-4 dropped calls on a daily basis. I really hope Apple comes out with a new bug free update, this is a really annoying one, more annoying than not having multi-sms.

All the iphone forums are full of complaints about dropped calls and poor reception after the upgrade. It's the software stupid! (directed at Apple)

I too have had an unacceptable amount of calls dropped with 1.1.3. I am so happy that my iphone was a 1.1.1 OTB phone. I was able to downgrade to the 1.1.1 firmware including the 1.1.1 baseband and then upgrade back to 1.1.2 with its baseband. All is as it was before and working just fine and stable.

add me to this list too. i went from having 5 bars to barely 1 and constantly getting 'no service' now, dropping calls like a bad habit. i tried re-sitting the sim card, resetting the network settings, and hard resetting the phone so far and i saw a brief boost to my signal, then back to 1 bar status.

im restoring now to see if it makes a difference. hopefully apple fixes the firmware next month when they release the sdk.

How can I find out if my iPhone is a 1.1.1 OTB? I'd like to downgrade and upgrade to 1.1.2 again as well until 1.1.4 comes out. Or can you link me to the place that teaches you how to downgrade? I'd appreciate it. As for restoring your iPhone, it helps it out a little bit. Mine has reduced the amount of dropped calls. It will make it a little better but it doesn't solve the problem completely.

Mine seems iffy on and off. I can go for days without it acting up and some days it just goes from 5 bars to none, I get a Call Failed, then right when I hit OK it springs right back up to 5 bars. It's maddening.

I never saw this stuff pre 1.1.3 either so it's definitely the software. Not sure what's up. I can live with this as I don't have many important calls but I really hope Apple fixes this soon before I start applying for jobs and get job interviews over the phone. Would suck to drop one of those calls
