Hi guys!

I have a problem. My macs keep dropping internet connection.
I can be online, surfing Safari, and it suddenly stops loading pages.
Its not that the internet / WiFi connection is dropped, as I can still download in the background, or even be on a Skype call, I can just no longer load any webpages in any browser.
(With Skype it is even more odd, as the Skype call can continue, yet I cannot send / receive files)

The solution, seems to be to turn off WiFi, and turn it back on.

I have followed the suggestions here:
http://osxdaily.com/2015/10/16/fix-wi-fi-problems-mac-os-x-el-capitan/
But they have not solved anything.

How would I go about tying to locate what causes this and how to fix it ?

Coax splitters and cables going to modem / started after a storm, outage, etc and whether your coax goes through a UPSor surge protector / local interference from other devices / changing channel used and turning off auto on router wifi

iPhone, iPad and the affected also? Are there uploads to cloud service eating bandwidth?

Can you use iPhone for wifi instead of modem?

Well, there is only mac --(over WiFi)--> router.
The router is a no name brand that is appropriated by my internet provider. I can't change settings on it..

The problem is not that I lose the WiFi connection (as said, my downloads / streaming / Skype continue) just that I am not able to start a new connection, if you will.

To confirm, I can ping the router through Terminal, but I am not able to ping a external server or anything.
I have changed the DNS servers to Google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) but that has not helped.

Your setup would seem to eliminate a mis-configured network.

The behavior is similar to behavior with some DNS issues. Hiccups in resolving addresses for everything on the web page.

Before you changed your DNS to Google's were they pointed to your ISP's recommended or just toward your router?

I had a ISP modem issue after a storm. After that I made sure to surge protect coax before it reached modem and the RJ45 coming into router.

Yours is modem-router? Not separate.

After my experience I bought Motorola Surfboard modems (pair, one as backup in case one went down).

Power can be iffy at times here as can ISP.
Somehow my old modem was limping along after huge storm and interruptions in power.

ISP can look remotely at their modem and error log.

You can't log into modem? Should be able even if you can't change it. RCA Cisco someone built it.

To be honest, I did not write them down. The ISP never supplied DNS settings, so I don't think I ever set them. I can remove the Google ones, see what the mac finds on its own ?

Well the router is working.. I can always ping it, so its not that it is not responding/ physically broken.

That does not to me rule out modem and dropped packets or worse though.
