Just curious, seeing how most data trends show data usage and text messaging are used higher than cell minutes. Do you think a lot of people will drop the iPhone for a cheaper cell phone with text and start using the 3G iPad instead anywhere they need. It's a cheaper data plan for it and you can turn it on and off unlike a traditional contracted cell phone data plan.

Just was discussing this scenario with my wife, who has an iPhone but honestly never clips over 20 minutes a month cell but uses the data and text heavily.

Am I crazy?

No, you are not crazy. Some of my friends thinking as the same way. iPad could be enough. But there would be times that you can't carry the iPad with you. For example, some sports activities, or times where you can't carry anything but your phone.

I'd rather have my iphone as well since I can't take the iPad everywhere, like work for example. Also why pay extra for the 3G version plus the data plan when I already get unlimited data for the iphone for the same price and I can tether it at my convenience?
