After running the latest security update on my Dual 2.0 G5 Powermac my fans are constately running at FULL speed.

I have repaired permission, ran ONYX, and rebooted.

Any other suggestion this thing is killing my ears.

no one has any suggestions or tips??? my fans have been running contant for 2 days!!

please!

Well, numberone tip, I would SHUT DOWN your computer if it is still not working properly. I do not know what to tell you about fixing it.

My iMac G5 acted a little strange when I applied the security update to it. When I shut it down and turned it back on after the update, it stayed on the black screen for a long time and then the fans went to full blast. I left it there for no more than a minute before I held down the power button to power it down. Upon turning it on again, everything was fine.

Hopefully someone else can help you out a little more.

Everything is working properly....except the fans are running.

Then it is not working properly. You may be causing damage to your G5 without knowing it. You should shut it down immediately and call Apple.

Why reply to a post unless you have an answer for the question being asked.
I didnt ask if I should shut down the machine and call Apple, that is common sense. I asked if there were any suggestions on ways I can remedy this myself without calling Apple and sitting on hold.

Here is a possible solution. Shut down your mac and then unplug any external devices. Unplug the powercord from your mac and wait approx. ten seconds. Plug the powercord back up and the external devices. Boot up and see what happens. I had this problem a long time ago and this fixed it. Also, have you had any memory upgrades recently?

Thanks Chasemac...I will give that a try when I get home. I have had no memory upgrades lately the 3 gig that in it has been there for 4 or 5 months.

easy kvan...the other gent was offering a 'suggestion' to you, per your original post, which asked for a suggestion...

slamming someone trying to help isn't going to get you anywhere. we're only trying to help. and also, if it's 'common sense' to shut down the system, then why did you leave yours running for 2 days?

i'm not home, but when i return, i will check this post as i have a dual 2.0 g5 as well and need to apply that update.

ps. the only thing i can suggest is to check the power usage section of the preferences (I know that's probably not the term, but search for fans and see if that selection is on for 100%. if it is, turn it down to the next selection). i'm on vacation and on a peecee right now so i forget the terms.

best of luck,
keebler

**Edit**
I spoke too soon, after a 1/2 hour or so the fans came back on and stayed on. I am off to call Applecare

Sorry to hear that didn't fix the problem. Please give us an update on the solution if you can.

I'm sorry that my suggestion did not seem helpful to you, but if my response was the common sense thing to do, why did you leave your G5 on for two days straight, possibly causing damage to the system?

If you want help on these forums, take the responses you get with gratitude. No one here is required to help you out at all.
