Dual 2.7 GHz temp

Okay, I received my dual 2.7 less then 24 hrs ago, it couldn't have come a moment too soon, i pulled it out of the box, installed FCP 4.5 on it, and continued editing. Anyways the real concern is the processor temps. I bought Hardware Monitor a while ago so I installed it to keep an eye one things. Its very fun to see the Raditor Pump RPM and the intake/exhaust fan RPM's etc. Very detailed info. However under load when rendering in FCP on Automatic setting in Energy Prefs my CPU's are at 187 F and 182 F respectively. CPU A peaked at 189.5 F. Thats HOT, went into the system info in hardware monitor and it said max temperature under MPU info under system info is 190. My G4 1.25GHz PBook doesnt get above 151 F. Anyways, Am i just worrying? Just seems VERY hot. But wow, the machine runs like a champ, totally amazing. Thank you Apple.

I'm not sure what the temperatures are supposed to be... but it sounds like that thing will make a nice space heater during the winter!

180's seem hot.

I believe the 970FX processors "melt" at 210 degrees F. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Could you cook an egg at that temperature, i saw an image of a guy cooking an egg on a powerbook recently.

That still seems a little high. My Dual G4 is on the hotter end when it reaches 140+ degrees; I can't imagine 180. I wonder what the average temperature is for other dual G5's.

My 2.5G5 is sitting at 120ºF right now although when i'm using FCP 5 it gets up to 140º

180 seems really high........

My 2.3Ghz goes as high as 164 degrees during heavy use.

Normally it sits around 135.

A lot of hot air is billowing out from under my desk! I'm sure it will be nice in winter, but now in the dead of summer i am suffering from PMOSLS (powermac owner sweaty legs syndrome).

I have a 1.8 GHz iMac G5 and it only gets up to 170 in a 2 inch enclosure running the CPU settings on highest. It doesn't get to that point all the time. Normally it runs at around 160.

180 for a PowerMac G5 is hot, especially with the direct air blowing on it, 6 inch high heatsinks, and liquid cooling. It shouldn't get anywhere near that hot. I would phone Apple about that.

Do the fans kick up when it gets that hot? I would think that the fans would start to be loud when it gets that hot. If not, then it could be a bad sensor(s) not kicking the fans up, or the sensor itself is feeding back a bad temp.

I wouldn't sweat it.

My 2.7 stays right about 167 F most of the time, it went as high as 192 F during a Cinebench test, but the fans cool things down incredibly quickly as dynamic temperature changes occur.

My 2.7 is around 160 F, or 70 C on the first, and around 150 F, or 65 C on the second according to Hardware Monitor. Applications running are; the Finder, Mail, Safari, Proteus, iTunes and of course Hardware Monitor.

An egg will begin to cook at between 144 and 158ºF (62 to 70ºC), according to the American Egg Board. I'll go out on a limb and assume that this range applies to eggs internationally, making the dual 2.7 GHz Power Macintosh an ideal platform for breakfast preparation.
