My parents just got their first iMac after using PC for the last 15+ years. The transition is going smoothly except for one minor issue with their audio.

They have had a setup where an audio cable ran from the PC in the study to their home theater system in the living room. They used this for listening to internet radio and such, and it enabled them to have sound playing in two places at once.

Personally, I use an AirPort Express and it works great, but since this cable is already running from point A to point B it'd be simple for them if this would work:

Is it possible to play sound both through the audio out and through the imac's speakers?

Thank you for your help, and forgive me if this has already been discussed, I searched the forums but was unable to find anything, but then again... I'm new...

I could but I'd like to use the iMac's built-in speakers as well as the audio output jack.

Your best option is using an audio splitter (like a few dollars from Radio Shack) and using external speakers on your iMac, like some good ones with a subwoofer, and then running a cable from the other port on the spiltter.
