I have a 2015 MBP retina with a 1T SSD.
Is there a way, or is it even possible to run dual boot Mojave and Monterey?

My recommendation would be to use a small nvme-based external SSD for "the second OS".

Granted, it's going to need to be "plugged in" while you're using it, but again, a small nvme enclosure (USB3.1 gen2) on a short USBc cable is "manageable".

I suppose it would be possible to partition the internal drive into 2 "pieces", and then install the second OS onto one of them. But the Mac OS now has so many internal "partitions" and "containers" (seen and invisible) that this could be inviting trouble. In the end, it's up to you.

I've "dual-booted" Macs for YEARS with one version of the OS on one drive, and another version on a second drive. No problems there.

That's a splendid idea. Any idea how I would go about that? I Used to have VMware on a mac and dual boot for Windows 7 but that was a long time ago.

1. Have external SSD connected.

2. Open disk utility. Go to the view menu and choose "show all devices".

3. Look at the list on the left. Pick "the top line" FOR THE SSD (the physical drive itself), then click erase. Format to APFS, GUID partition format. Quit disk utility.

4. Now download the new OS (Sonoma, right).

5. Let the installer open, and begin "clicking through", BUT, when the installer asks WHERE you want to install, "aim it" at the EXTERNAL SSD.

6. The install should proceed. The Mac may reboot one or more times, and the screen may go dark for a minute or more with no other indication of activity. Be patient.

7. When done, you should be booted from the SSD and see the setup screen (choose your language). So... click through and set it up. You may want to import some data from the internal drive. OR... you might want to start "completely fresh". It's up to you.

Yeah I was just not sure of how to select between the two OS's which one to boot from. From the vid I watched it said hold the power button until the menu screen comes up. I have a 2015 MBP Retina. I'll give this a shot. Thanks
It's Mojave I'm looking for. Hopefully it's still available. It's for a music plugin that only works up till Mojave :(
