Dual Core 2.3 and Panther

Hello everyone. I am new here and I have a question that I was hoping someone might know the answer to. We just got in some new dual core 2.3's at work. None of the computers here are running Tiger yet as it has not been production tested by our department. Is it possible to install Panther on the new Dual core systems or am I asking for a firmware catastrophe?

Haven't tried it, but typically the minimum OS requirements on new machines from Apple is hard-edged. I'm thinking catastrophe here...

I agree also, I would not suggest trying that. Tiger is very stable and much better then Panther. Maybe you can push things thru in your company.

Thanks guys. I am trying to convince them it was hard enough to get them onto Panther. They just upgraded to Panther just before Tiger came out so you can guess what that was like.

Ok... I don't really know, but that's what came to mind when I read that...

Usually, you cannot install an OS that is lower than what came on it. So for example, if it came with OS X.4.1, then you cannot install anything lower than that, including OS X.3, or even OS X.3.9.

Tiger is a very good OS, much better than Panther. The Tiger OS that came with your PowerMac is specifically optimized for dual core processors, which Panther may not be.
