I am looking at replacing my G4 450MHz and would like some advice on which G5 to purchase. Will be using CS2 apps, iMovie, iDVD and hopefully learning Cinema 4D. Don't play that many games. Any suggestions?

I'd get the DC 2Ghz with a RAM upgrade to 2GB, upgraded video card, and some other small things instead of the DC 2.3. Don't buy your RAM from apple, buy it from some other place like NewEgg. You can get 2GB(2x1GB) of good RAM for ~$200 at NewEgg.

Went through the same decision and bought the 2.3GHz. It is about $300 difference for me after upgrading the graphics card and hard drive.

i went with the DC 2.0 as i could not justify the extra $500 for a slightly better video card and an extra 300mhz.

I agree with most people here and say that you might as well get the 2.0 and upgrade the RAM and graphics card. The difference in speed that you would notice between the two is probably fairly minimal. If you can afford the 2.3 then by all means go for it, but I was in the same situation a little while ago, and you can tell by my sig what my final decision was.

Well I ended up getting the Dual Core 2.3GHz and am a very happy man.

It is a beautiful machine.

Now off to get all the extras.

Airport Card
Ram
Apps

Thanks for your help!

Amazing... yesterday you didn't know what you wanted to get and today you have a computer... I knew what I wanted to get 3 weeks ago, and I still don't have it... I'm really getting tired of this waiting game.

It wasn't that easy.

I have been debating the issue for a long time now.

Just said to myself "you only live once" and that did the trick.

good luck with your future purchase.

BTW I used to live in Big D. Now live in New Zealand.
