Have a late 2009 iMac with mini display ports (Yosemite) and a 2015 iMac with Thunderbolts (Big Sur). Is there an easy way to connect the two so I can use the 2009 iMac as an extended display for the 2015?

Try a mini Display Cable with male plugs on both ends. The iMac 2009 is supposed to recognize the video signal input and turn to Target Display Mode automatically, or Cmd-F2.
