Dual-Display Buyers Advice

Hello. Not sure if this is the right forum but the mods will move it if not.

I’m looking for a pair of 4K monitors, minimum 27” which can be daisy-chained to connect to my 2016 MacBook Pro with a single USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 cable.

I’ve done some research and all I can find are the LG Ultrafines but surely there must be others out there.

Anybody got any recommendations?

macOS does not support MST for chaining multiple displays so Thunderbolt must be used instead.

Chaining dual 4Ks requires at least one Thunderbolt display like the LG UltraFine 4K.

The alternative is two DisplayPort 4Ks connected to a Thunderbolt dock or adapter or device. The simplest/smallest adapter is a Thunderbolt 3 to dual DisplayPort adapter.

I’ve managed to find a BenQ and a Dell which would do the job, but both are in the $1,200+ price range. I didn’t realise 4K monitors with Thunderbolt were still so expensive.

A dock may be a cheaper option until the technology matures.

For anyone looking for daisy chaining with MST on a Mac, you can do it with the hardware if you install Windows in boot camp. Very frustrating that this isn't fixed yet by Apple. I have a MBP with MacOS Catalina and with two daisy-chainable Dell 27" monitors with both USB-C and DisplayPort (in and out ports). MST doesn't work with MacOS no matter what I try and I have to use separate, dedicated cables for the monitors. When I reboot into Windows 10 with the same hardware, it works perfectly with ONE cable, letting me span both displays, charge my battery, and use the USB-3 hubs on the monitors. This is clearly a software deficiency. I was hoping it would be fixed with Big Sur, but it sounds like not. C'mon Apple!
