Probably because your system has to render more information, which puts more load on the graphics card and CPU. How much does it heat up and how big is the secondary display you use?

Depending on what im doing with my 1920x1200 screen anything between 1 and 10C

Although normal idle is 30-35C :p

When it's idle, it would be around 50s degree Celcius at 2500 rpm. When I play songs and turn on the visualizer of my iTunes plus doing a multi tabs web browsing ,MSN and Yahoo messenger, and check on Mail, it could reaches to 70 degree Celcius at 4000 rpm!! Haven't try if i do photoshop yet. Is there anyway to reduce this heat issue? I bought a 15 cm desk fan and wonder if I can do a correct position ?

BTW, the screen resolution I use in Dell monitor is 1280 x 1024

Cheers

remove the second monitor. An open browser can put some heavy loads on the CPU depending on what sites you have open. Same with the visualizer in iTUnes. I just checked and a visualizer adds causes about a 40% utilization of the CPU. Turned it off and now its less than 10%.

ultimately, a second monitor will put extra strain on the GPU.
