Verbatim is a very good choice, ive been working a while as a prof. DVD/Mpeg creator. There I used a Pioneer DVR-S201 burner (prof DVD 5 burner from about 5000 USD) and a regular Plextor DL DVD burner.
F
or both (dvd5 and dvd9) verbatim works as the most reliable media to my opinion.:)

Not exactly what you asked, but for normal DVD-R disks I use Taiyo Yuden disks: a 50 disk spindle of 16x DVD-R's costs $21. I find they burn much faster than the dual layer disks (my La Cie is 16x), and cost about 10% as much as dual layer...

You can also find links to decent prices on dual layer disks on the left. I've bought blanks from a bunch of different sources, I like this company, and their prices, the best.
