Other Dual lens users

Just wondering how often people use the 2X zoom of their cameras? I would love to have that feature on my 8, as I think I would use it quite often.

I like everything about the 8, other than the single lens. I came from an SE, so the 8 was a stretch, size wise. I know many will say that the XS is the same size, but it isn’t. Plus, it’s considerably more money. My 8 is paid for....lol

A portrait mode like the XR received would have been a plus too, but I’d really love the telephoto. So, how often does everyone use the zoom?

Constantly. I never go beyond 2x, but I do use that optical zoom a lot.

About 5% of the time and camera is a core app/function for me.

A lot of people dont know they use the 2x lens. They may not press the 2x button, but they pinch to zoom all the time and the telephoto lens is used automatically. So it really is a lot more useful than most may think it is.

That said, if given a choice then I’d rather have a 2nd lens be a wide lens rather than telephoto. The iPhone HDR and balance is spectacular so having a nice wider lens would help capture those gorgeous landscape cinematic.

I use the 2x optical zoom a lot, especially on vacations. With a single wide angle lens, digital zoom degrades image quality pretty noticeably. Also, the wide angle lens on the newer iPhones is slightly wider than before, so the two lenses really complement each other and give you a lot of flexibility. (A lot of flexibility for a phone; obviously not compared to a camera with changeable lenses.)

The only reason I have Xs Max instead of Xr is the 2X lens. I used it about 60% of the time with my X over the past year.

And to clarify, I’m speaking of the 2X telephoto zoom, not reaching into the digital zoom area.

I use it quite a bit on my Xs, and it works really well, here’s a photo without zoom...

And here is a shot using the 2x telephoto lens, I was stood in the same spot for both photos...

The camera on the Xs is simply fantastic.

I am thinking about the XS, even though I don’t like the price, and the 8+, even though I don’t like the size.

I’d just love to be able to play with the telephoto lens for a couple of months, to see if it is worth the trade off to me.
